"We had gotten five inches of rain in one day and that started the whole trip. First we found a minor drip in the attic, just because my wife was up there getting some decorations down. Later the same day we spotted a wet spot in the front room and that's when I went to Angie's List. I ultimately called Woodlands Roofing & Exteriors.
Mr. Blante Evans showed up after we called and gave us an estimate of about $250.00 and put us on the schedule. About a week later a three man, two truck crew showed up, scouted the roof and proceeded to use roofing caulk to seal around all the vents and other protrusions through the roof and removed the satellite receiver left by the previous owner and repaired those points too.
Yesterday, 11/23/13, the rain started again, once more we have received almost five inches in 48 hours. NO LEAKS this time so Woodlands Roofing did the job and Mr.Evans the elder, the estimator, and Mr. Evans the younger, I assume is a relative, ramrodded
the fix. They all did a good job, the fix did its job and we're very happy. Will have no problem calling them again if the need arises.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Professionals repair or seal a skylight by inspecting for damages, resealing any gaps with appropriate weatherproofing materials, replacing cracked glass or seals, and ensuring the frame is tightly fitted to prevent future leaks and ensure proper drainage.

Fixed skylights are by far the most popular type. Because skylights can be pretty high up on your ceiling, fixed (rather than operable) skylights remove some maintenance from the equation. Plus, you don’t have to constantly worry if you shut your skylight fully the last time you opened it or if you’re going to find a leak later on during a rainy day.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Repairing or replacing a skylight generally takes between a few hours to a full day. Simple repairs might take 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the problem. The total time can vary based on factors like weather conditions, the accessibility of the skylight, and the extent of the work required, such as replacing the entire unit versus performing minor repairs.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.
