"I called SETCON to come out & replace/paint an interior door; they also fixed my garage door hardware, my kitchen cabinet so it sits flush, & replaced my light kit in my ceiling fan. I found their prices to be very reasonable! They look/act professional, ethical, respectable, clean, & very cute! They drive professional nice vehicles & look/act totally trustworthy. This is the first handyman service in my 40 years of adulthood that I would strongly recommend & be loyal to. "Wonderful. He and his crew arrived on time and started to work immediately. They did a lot of work on my house and an apartment a few houses down. They took out four dead trees, planted four trees, planted hibiscus after re arranging the irrigation pipes that were originally placed in the middle of the bed. They moved that so the hibiscus could be planted. They cleaned up a messy area around the apartment and cleaned up the trees that were scraping the roof of the apartment. All in all, they did a great job and I will use them again."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.

Decks are generally more expensive to build because they require elevating and railings. The difference between decks and patios is that decks are elevated, while patios are usually on the ground level. Plus, decks are usually made of wood and need more maintenance than most patios. However, decks and patios serve the same purpose, providing outdoor space for you to enjoy.

With proper installation and maintenance, a vinyl deck can last up to 30 years. Factors like regular cleaning, minimal wear and tear, proper installation, and the use of higher-grade materials can extend its durability. However, extreme weather conditions or neglecting maintenance might shorten its lifespan. Adhering to manufacturer recommendations for care and occasional inspections can significantly prolong a vinyl deck's longevity.

While experienced DIYers may take on the challenge, hiring a licensed professional is often the best route, especially for larger or elevated structures. A local deck contractor is typically the best pro for the job, as they have specialized experience and are knowledgeable about local building codes, ensuring your deck is built safely and designed to last. Other professionals who can build a deck include general contractors and carpenters, who may be more readily available in some regions.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.
