"What a difference this skylight made! There was an old skylight in our master bath, which was acrylic and had become clouded through the decades. Innovative Skylights replaced it with their beautiful glass Velux skylight. The clear glass lets in much more sunlight than the old one, doesn't leak or have condensation like the old one, and looks great from the inside and outside. All the people involved were professional, knowledgable, friendly and did their jobs with excellence. Wish we'd done this years ago. Highly recommended."

"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"They did everything they said they would do. They came in and did it all in one afternoon. They got down to it and got after it. The only thing was that when I was looking before they left they forgot to put the rafter in that was supposed to go between the two 3-foot-apart rafters. So I had to remind them to do that. They were excellent. They showed up when they said they would and they did the work. They went around and sealed any shingles that might have been blown up during a hurricane. They also resealed all the vents through the roof to make sure that everything was sealed up."

"DAV is a professional, very efficient roofer and we are SO glad we were referred to them by neighbors who were all equally surprised at the wonderful, easy way they roof job went. They helped us all the way through and even drove by a house that I loved the roof of and identified the roof so I got that gorgeous Georgetown Gray !! Our gutters are now a beautiful copper finish and that didn’t cost much more than the boring colors. The people are honest, go the extra mile and are so friendly. The owner is a truly nice man and knows quality materials and techniques and that is why he is successful. 10 plus out of 10!! So proud of how my house looks now!!! All 4 surrounding neighbors used them, because they saw how painless and quick it was and how beautiful it looked."

"The service went fine. Thy just did an inspection but no repairs were made. The technician showed me a picture of an area of the roof that needs worked on. I have not yet followed through on the roof repair. I thought the technician should have fixed the problem for me, but he did not. I had no problem contacting the company or scheduling the service."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.

Professionals repair or seal a skylight by inspecting for damages, resealing any gaps with appropriate weatherproofing materials, replacing cracked glass or seals, and ensuring the frame is tightly fitted to prevent future leaks and ensure proper drainage.

Skylights might sometimes increase your homeowners insurance premium, but the increase is usually minimal. Some home insurance companies won’t adjust your premium with the addition of a skylight, so you can contact your insurer or your professional skylight installer to ask about any expected changes. It’s crucial to have an expert install the skylight, as insurance companies may not insure your roof or cover water damage that results from a non-professional skylight installation.

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.

Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:

  • Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?

  • What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?

  • Do you have references I can speak with?

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Are you licensed and insured?
