"Bottom line: Shane is disorganized, not as experienced as he claims, and unprofessional in his response to criticism. He seems like a nice enough guy but I will never use him again and I would advise anyone that continues to use him (as my friend who referred me to him is doing) that you should only use him for basic simple stuff and know that he has poor follow through. I used him July 2020 to install recessed lighting on the first floor of my 2 story house. It was only after drilling four holes in the ceiling that Shane realized he could not connect the wires because of the jousts set every 2 feet apart in my ceiling. He remarked that he had never seen a house like mine where I had beams going across every 2 feet. (something I later found out if farily common and shows his lack of experience). He said he would do some research and get back to me. Meanwhile, I asked for a second opinion by the electrician contracted by the home builder. He told me that if Shane had gone up in the attic, (whicch he never did), he would have realized that I had jousts set every 2 feet and would have then known, up front, that he was going to have to make more holes in the ceiling. The second electrician told me that I would need a minimum of six additional holes to complete my lighting project. When Shane finally got back to me, he said he had a friend who did dry wall and would reduce his cost for me and that I would need only 3 additional holes that needed repair. I told Shane that I find that hard to believe when the contracted builder's electrician said a minimum of 6 more holes. I told him that I would be willing to continue with him if he could guaranteee that only 3 more holes were needed and he would pay additional cost if more holes were needed. I never heard back from him. Meanwhile I had 4 recessed lights that were decorative in my ceiling but no function. One of the holes was up against the joust so that I could not rest the recessed light flush against the ceiling so Shane's work had a slightly unfinished look, never mind not functional. I called Shane twice and left a message. I spoke to a business colleague of his who referred me to him and told her that Shane was unprofessional but if he was not going to charge me, then I would not complain. I just assumed he felt guilty regarding his inexperience and the fact that I was referred by a mutual friend. Fast forward, ONE YEAR LATER! Shane calls to tell me that his receptionist was going over his books and found several unpaid invoices. I told Shane that I never received an invoice and that he ghosted me. He told me that he never received my calls and I said that does not explain why he would not call to complete his work. He argued that I told him that I did not want him to complete the work. I said this is a case of he said, she said and given that this happened ONE YEAR AGO, both of our memories could be off. He insisted he sent an invoice. I said I never received an invoice and he called me a liar so I told him to find the email he sent me and resend it. He insisted that if I wanted him to finish the job he would come back and do it so he could get paid. I said that I did not like our conversation and was not planning to ever use him again. He called me cheap. In the end, I paid him for the minor work he did with GFCI outlets and wall timer switches and we agreed he would not bill me for the ceiling work. I could write off his lack of experience and even his lack of organization but I draw the line at his unprofessional ghosting, his name calling and his general lack of willingness to accept his own culpability."

Typically, under-cabinet lighting costs about $265 on average, ranging from $230 to $300, depending on the type of lights, fixtures, and amount of electrical work required. Additional cost factors include the removal of old lighting, energy costs related to the type of light bulbs, and the replacement of light bulbs as they burn out.
Here are the average lighting costs by type:
LED Puck Lights: $25 per fixture
LED Strip Lights: $20 per 8-foot strip
Xenon Fixtures: $50 per unit
Fluorescent Lighting: $12 to $50 per unit
On average, the cost to install a light fixture is about $550, ranging from about $160 to $950, depending on the number of lights and the type of light bulbs and fixtures. You should consider other cost factors like your home’s location, electrical and drywall work required to install the fixture, and removal of old fixtures when creating a budget for this project. Keep in mind that replacing a light fixture typically costs less than installing one for the first time.
Recessed lighting installation costs about $360 on average, with a typical price range between $100 and $480, depending on labor cost in your area, required wiring, and the type of bulb. The cost to hire an electrician to install recessed lighting is typically $200 to $250 per fixture. If your electrical pro charges per hour, expect to pay $85 to $105 per hour for this service. Other cost factors include:
Ceiling material
Housing type
Trim type
Bulb type
Materials
Accessibility
Permits
You should hire a licensed electrician who is insured to perform any electrical work on your home, including lighting installation. States have different requirements for licensing and certifying electricians, so use Angi’s state licensing tool to review local guidelines.
Here are a few questions to ask electricians before hiring:
How many years of electrical experience do you have?
Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?
Do you work with subcontractors?
Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?
What is the timeline for completion?
How do you handle change orders?
Can you provide at least three customer references?
Several types of light fixtures are available, each requiring different installation techniques. Keep in mind that you’ll need to hire a lighting specialist to install the majority of these fixture types.
Here are some of the most common light fixture options:
Ceiling-mounted fixtures: $90–$230
Pendant lights: $95–$250
Chandeliers: $300–$2,000
Track lighting: $100–$250
Wall-mounted lights: $90–$250
Fluorescent lights: $85–$220
Light bars: $330–$440
