"The plumbing technician, Tyler Herriage, was able to arrive very quickly, inspect the damaged tile, bathroom faucets and pipes, water heater, and water meter, and determine that the water damage was not due to a leak this time. He was knowledgeable explaining the types and signs of leaks and I appreciated his honesty advising that there was not evidence a costly pressure test or camera run was needed."

"Billy and Cameron were great and arrived on time. They had the problem fixed within 3 hours. They were honest and didn't require me to buy a new toilet like the other two companies who bid on the job to fix a broken supply line."

"Alex and Jose were top notch! They did a complete demo and remodel of both bathrooms. They were able to do EVERYTHING with ease including plumbing, retexturing, shower tile, bath tube installation, Toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, Sheetrock, Vent fan, floor tile, baseboards, and etc. I was very impressed by the whole project. Alex responded quickly and actually worked on the project daily along with Jose. They respected my home by laying protective materials on my hardwood floor where they frequented. I recommend them for any job and would hire them again in a heartbeat. Price was by far the best of all 6 quotes I received from other contractors. You won’t regret their services. (Note: pictures attached are before paint as we elected to do that ourselves for pleasure)"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Yes, flushing a clogged toilet can make it overflow. While flushing the toilet may push enough pressure through the system to dislodge the clog, this is unlikely. Your best bet is to use a plunger and hope the suction can break up whatever is blocking the pipe. If this doesn’t work, use a plumbing auger or call a pro to help.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

According to the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), the distance between your trap and the vent should be no more than 6 feet. For your vent to work properly, it needs to feed into the drain line within 6 feet of trapways that connect to it. Using this formula, you should be able to determine whether you will need multiple vent lines.

If you’ve accessed the bolts and nuts that hold your toilet seat in place and can’t unscrew them, it’s possible that they were overtightened or that the material corroded over time, making it impossible to unscrew. If that’s the case, you can either call in a plumber for help, or you can DIY a solution if you’re careful. Lay down masking tape around the mounting bracket and then use the tape as a surface to lay a hack saw blade. Move slowly to cut through the bracket and bolt, being careful not to damage the porcelain in the process.

Toilet handles can get stuck for a couple of reasons, but it’s commonly an issue with the chain. Remove the lid and check the chain’s connection, running from the flapper to the handle arm. Sometimes the chain gets snagged on or against another part of the tank.

The chain might not have the right tension. For example, a chain that’s too short can make the handle feel stuck. Check that there’s some slack in the chain. Old, worn-out flappers can get stuck, too. In this case, you’ll need to see which size toilet flapper you need.
