"WD Metal Buildings was just who I needed to build a 30X66X14 foot open end barn. The work was done in mid 2022. I got quotes from 4 other builders. WD's online calculator was accurate and helped me understand and explore all my options. I needed a sturdy barn that wouldn't budge if a cow leaned on it. With schedule 40, 4 1/2 inch steel pipe poles, it fit the bill. The rounded roofline is simple and sturdy. Knowing they were likely to hit rock when they dug the holes, they contracted a professional to drill into rock. WD was very accommodating with my schedule and their crew was courteous and efficient. They also cleaned up before they left! The holes dug through practically solid rock took one day. The setting of posts took one day. The build took two and a half days. The end result is a barn that does its job and looks clean and simple, just like I wanted."

Garages questions, answered by experts

You should spray garage door lubricant on its important mechanical parts, including the hinges, rollers, springs, bearing plates, lock, armbar, and, potentially, rail. Do not lube the tracks, though you should clean these regularly for optimal performance.

We recommend plywood and solid wood. Particleboard and MDF (medium-density fiberboard) are often too weak to hold significant loads, and could sag or deform under pressure. Plywood or solid wood are meant to last, and can handle the weight of several large items. If you want to spend a little more for a moisture-resistant material, you can consider using steel.

Choosing the best paint finish for your garage door project can be tricky. But as long as you use a primer, latex, acrylic, or oil-based paint should all work well. Many people opt for a semi-gloss or gloss finish so that the paint dries hard and stands up against humidity and regular wear and tear.

The paint type your garage door needs depends on the door's material. Aluminum garage doors generally require exterior acrylic paint, while vinyl and wood doors usually call for exterior latex paint. Pros typically recommend latex and oil-based paint for steel doors. Acrylic latex paint is a great option if you need something that’s kid and pet-friendly as well as eco-friendly.

Standard garage door sizes for single doors range from 8 feet wide by 7 feet tall to 9 feet wide by 7 feet tall. An oversized single garage door would be 10 feet wide by 7 feet wide. The standard size for double garage doors is 16 feet wide by 7 feet high. However, some custom double garage doors can be as wide as 20 feet.
