"SOMETIME THE HIGHEST BIDDER WINS - Here is why. I just had some tree work done. A lot of tree work actually. I had decided to put it off for one more year, but the Silver Maple which does not last more than about 20 years in Houston climate, was dying. The final straw was the day I came home from church and a 25-30 ft limb broke off the tree, falling in to my driveway, nearly missing my wifes convertible VW Beetle, "The Lady Bug". If it had hit her "toy" ; that would have been very bad. I immediately reached out to 4 companies for bids. Coincidentally a young man came to my door that day soliciting tree work. We walked the property and talked about what I needed and he told me he would email me an estimate. Over the next week, two other companies come and give me quotes. Two of the companies I contacted never showed or followed up so they were out. I told each vendor that I was getting bids and I would not be deciding for a week or so and because I was in the middle of a political campaign, I would not be getting the work done until after the election. Here is where the difference comes in. One company handed me a hand written quote which was actually just a price for the entire job with no detail. The second company emailed their estimate and it was itemized and at a very reasonable price. The Outdoor Pros email their itemized bid, a picture of the Home Advisor award patches, a copy of their liability insurance certificate, their taxpayer id W9 showing that they were legitimate, and a copy of an addition bond coverage by a Surety company. The next thing they did was so important. They followed up. They sent me a thank you note when I confirmed the receipt of their bid. Their sales rep, Marlon Mancilla reached out to me on election day to wish me good luck in my campaign and expressed his hope that they could earn my business. I had told him, I would review the bids by the end of that week. The Outdoor Pros were the highest bid I recieved; 24% higher than the lowest bid. but I was in business for 30+ years and know the difference between price and value. So far they had shown the most sincere desire to gain my business. Still, the three bids covered quite a range so I decided if they could come down to the average of the three bids, I would give them my business. They agreed, and I am glad they did. They did everything that was on the bid and more. And they did it all in one day, Which was really quite impressive. Their equipment appeared well maintained and in very good repair. The foreman kept in contact with me throughout the day to be sure that the details of each tree and bush were exactly as I wanted. The entire crew was well coordinated and very efficient. Marlon followed up at the end of the day to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. They say the true measure of a company is it's people. The Outdoor Pros have great people. They promised a lot and deliver even more. I highly recommend the Outdoor Pros and especially thank Marlon Mancilla for a job well done. "H and H did a great job for me - they built a wooden fence, trimmed my large oak tree, and grinded up my neighbors hack berry tree that was in a difficult location. And the price was FAIR! Would I hire Hector and these guys again? Damn straight I would!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

While trees can grow in the curb strip between the sidewalk and the street, this placement often poses the problem of interfering with overhead power lines. It’s best to consult your local utility provider and tree planting service before transplanting a tree that might grow into power lines. Also, you should never work within 20 feet of a live power line to avoid the risk of electric shock. Tree branches should never touch nearby power lines, so it’s essential to ensure your tree isn’t in danger of growing too close to them.

There are two types of arborists: certified and consulting. A certified arborist is licensed and equipped to provide tree pruning, planting, fertilizing, monitoring, transplanting, treatment, and removal services. A consulting arborist specializes in tree appraisals, diagnosing problems and recommending treatments for illnesses. However, they will not provide these services themselves. Most consulting arborists are certified arborists who can refer you to a tree service that can administer the correct treatments.

Opt for a barefoot tree. Pros harvest barefoot trees when they’re dormant (leafless). They shake the dirt from the root ball and pack it in moist material.

These trees can cost half as much as the trees at your local nursery, and you can buy them online—so there’s a much wider selection. Just make sure you keep your barefoot tree cool until you’re ready to plant it.

Planting a palm tree close to your home can provide shade while elevating the beauty of your yard. However, there are a few safety concerns to consider before doing so. You’ll want to opt for a smaller tree with a non-invasive root system. Select a species that won’t grow too tall and choose a planting location that won’t damage your home.

If tree branches cross well into your property line, in many cases, these branches become part of your property, and you can trim them up until your neighbor’s property line. However, this issue will vary based on local ordinances, so you should do your research before making any decisions. Better yet, speak with your neighbor about how to handle any tree issues.

If you don’t mind the branches, you can leave them be, but if they’re becoming a hazard, it’s definitely worth having a conversation.
