"The Deck & Patio Co was great from start to finish. I worked with Tom on the initial estimate, Martin on the actual work to be done and Jed Mowell, the owner, who came out twice to make sure all work was completed timely and to my satisfaction. Jed even sent me a fruit basket the day after I had some surgery during the project. I can't say enough positive things about their timeliness, the work product they produced and the communication during the entire project. Would strongly recommend them for any patio roof installations/repairs."

"Choosing Fix My Slab was the best decision I could have made for my foundation repair. Right from the very beginning with the evaluation and estimate, everyone was friendly and business oriented. I never felt rushed to make a decision and every question I had was answered calmly and without making me feel less than informed. The crew that did the repair was to say the least impressive. It has been a long time since I have witnessed a work crew that actually enjoyed what they were doing and their top concern was doing the job right. I could not be more pleased and have already recommended them to 2 of our neighbors. They made a stressful and worry-some situation very easy to deal with. This is a pure model for business. If you happen to get Cesear as the supervisor on the job, you have nothing to worry about! He was fantastic.

"My husband and I scheduled a job to do concrete work for our patio with George S. from Home Masters. They were here on Friday morning and finished by the end of the day. George was great in keeping us informed on what was going to be don. He also made sure we were satisfied with the results. We are pleased with how it turned out and hope to call him again to get more work done."

"Job was completed in 1 day for 9 piers. Not the cheapest but their warranty is not like no others. Only 4 stars (should be 4.5) due to leaving the area messy. I know it was very modded and it was difficult to leave things as they were."

"They worked quickly and efficiently.  They cleaned up the site and left the area in tip top shape. We are an HOA community on the North side of town and adjacent to Jack Rabbit Golf Course."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, staining a brick home can increase a home’s value, assuming your pro does a good job and you keep up with maintenance tasks. Staining brick is a much better way to increase a home’s value than painting brick, as the latter can cause chipping, warping, and bubbling. Brick stain, on the other hand, gets absorbed by the surface, so it can still breathe.

Yes, you can technically use a pressure washer to remove paint from brick, but it comes with a significant risk of damaging the brick surface. A high-power pressure washer can be fast but may leave the brick looking unsightly. The recommended method is to first apply a chemical paint stripper, following the product's instructions, and then use a stiff metal bristle brush or a pressure washer on a low-pressure setting to remove the loosened paint. Due to the risk of damage, it is often best to hire a professional who can use low-stress methods.

If your old bricks are in decent condition and you have the space to store them where they’ll be protected from the elements, keeping old bricks is often worthwhile. You’d spend anywhere from $70 to a few hundred dollars to have them removed from your property, in which case you won’t be able to use them for future projects. Holding on to old bricks in good condition means you can use them later for other DIY projects, potentially saving yourself some money on disposal and new materials down the road.

Yes, an outdoor fireplace should use fire bricks. Fire bricks are specially designed to withstand high levels of heat and thus won’t crack as easily as regular bricks when exposed to the intense heat inside a fireplace.

No, you shouldn’t lay bricks directly on dirt. While it might seem like a shortcut, it leads to a patio that shifts, sinks, and becomes a maintenance headache. Dirt expands, contracts, and erodes—none of which mix well with long-term stability. To build something that lasts, excavate the topsoil, compact a layer of crushed gravel, and add a coarse sand-setting bed. This layered base gives your bricks proper support, allows drainage, and helps block weeds from creeping through. Cutting corners here just means you’ll spend more time—and money—repairing your brick patio later.
