Small jobs welcome

"I highly recommend Elevation Masonry LLC. They provided the greatest customer service that is rarely seen anymore. Francisco (father) Erik (son) are the ultimate professionals. They did a tremendous job. Replace a 7 ft x 15 ft brick wall fence. Our HOA after approving the job advised us we needed a city permit. Erik dealt with the Houston Permitting Center like a true professional.. He kept us informed of every step the permit was going through. Once it was approved, they started the project immediately. They were prompt worked quickly and efficiently. Now we have a beautiful fence. We have already received several compliments on it. My appreciation of Elevation Masonry is beyond words!! Again, I highly recommend Francisco Erik for the exceptional workmanship reasonable prices!!"

"The work product make all the cast cement sections look like brand new. They took care to match the new mortar to the old, so everything blended right it. The two-man crew was extremely polite and courteous. I would hire them again should I need them. A neighbor has the same issue with their decorative cast stone and plans to hire them after seeing their work product. I did shave one of their ratings to 4.5 instead of a straight 5 because they did not clean up their work area when finished. A drop cloth in the work area would have taken care if this issue straight away."

"Overall, we are very pleased with our new deck from The Deck and Patio Company. The crew was very professional, polite, and friendly. Each day they spent the time to clean up the project site and were always willing to answer any questions we may have had. The quality of the wood, carpentry, and staining was excellent. The only drawback was the length of time (13 weeks) between contract execution and start of the work"

Customers say: True professional

"I was very anxious about potential foundation issues. Once I engaged Crosstown, they took their time to explain what the services entail, the process and costs. Everything was exactly as it was explained before, during and after my appointment. They gave me an unbiased assessment and the information I needed to understand what was happening to my house and what would need to be repaired. Very easy to work with. And gave me peace of mind! Highly recommend!"

"My husband and I scheduled a job to do concrete work for our patio with George S. from Home Masters. They were here on Friday morning and finished by the end of the day. George was great in keeping us informed on what was going to be don. He also made sure we were satisfied with the results. We are pleased with how it turned out and hope to call him again to get more work done."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Cobblestone can be made from many different types of stones but the most common ones, by far, are granite, basalt, limestone, and sandstone.  If you are laying a brick paver patio or other such project, the medium is different. It’s rare, but cobblestone can also be made from marble, slate, jasper, and other types of rock. Technically, you can make cobblestone from almost any type of rock, but if it is weather-resistant and stands the test of time is another question entirely.

Brick spalling—which refers to the crumbly, flaky, or pitted appearance that can develop over time—is caused by a few different conditions. These include:

  • Climates with constant freeze-thaw cycles

  • Use of non-breathable sealants

  • High-pressure water cleaning

  • Improper installation

While you can’t do anything about the weather, you can preserve your bricks by cleaning them with soapy water and a good old-fashioned scrubbing. Pressure washers may be satisfying to use, but they can eventually wear away the surface of your bricks. If you don’t have advanced-level DIY skills in masonry, you can hire a reputable masonry contractor in your area for your project.

Yes, masonry is more expensive than concrete because the labor is much more involved. With masonry, your expert will build your project from the ground up, one piece at a time, ensuring they use the proper amount of mortar or grout during construction and keeping the project level or plumb. Pouring concrete can also be labor-intensive, but it’s a bit less involved. It requires building a mold, pouring the concrete, and letting it cure. The less intensive labor makes concrete a more affordable option in most cases.

You can use a regular drill to make pilot holes for gutter brackets in the wooden fascia board around the top of your house, but it’s not the best tool for brick. Instead, you’ll need a heavy-duty power tool like a hammer drill with a carbide tip bit.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.
