"Eve is an artist! I extend the highest of recommendations for this company. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING, was done so professionally. The quote was very reasonable and his work greatly exceeded my expectations. He reinstalled our appliances and installed a new sink and faucet for us. Everything was done on time and cleaned up impeccably. All countertops and backsplashes were created for me on site. My new kitchen is beautiful. The workmanship is stunning. I am extremely pleased. Please do not use anyone else for your laminate custom creation/installation. I recommend the bull nose edge; Eve makes them by hand and my countertops look like granite tops with rounded edges."

"We had a long stretch of fence replaced. James Siegert was a pleasure to work with and we will definitely use again for future projects. The crew tore down the old fence and hauled it away. When the new construction was complete the area was cleaned. We also had the new fence stained. For some reason this app won't let me download pictures (says the file is too large), but it is beautiful. Claudia and David Allen"

"We hired Aggieland Carpet One to replace the carpet. We were so impressed with them, from the store, to the salesperson, to the installers. Everyone was so friendly and personable. The salesperson, Miriam, came to our house with several samples and helped us choose the color and style. She was so knowledgeable and knew what we wanted, even when we didn't. The installers came exactly on time and finished the job in 1 1/2 hours. We highly recommend this company!"

"Sentri Homes provided the most professional flooring service I’ve ever had. The LVP installation turned out absolutely beautiful, and I was amazed at how quickly everything was completed without sacrificing quality. The crew was fast, accurate, and extremely detail-oriented from start to finish. Everything was installed cleanly, precisely, and with real craftsmanship. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and far beyond what I expected. I would absolutely recommend Sentri Homes to anyone needing flooring installed."

"The entire process was wonderful, from my first meeting with Todd to the final walkthrough. Todd’s expertise in helping to select just the right products and the above and beyond workmanship by James, the installer, provided me with a bathroom that is beautiful and functional. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!"

"I am giving Holman an overall grade of B because there were lots of problems on this job, but in the end they persisted until I was satisfied. I had used them before on other things like installing a toilet, and I had been pleased with the work. I bid this remodeling job with six contractors, and Holman was neither the highest nor the lowest. I thought the price was reasonable, and they emailed me a detailed schedule which took into consideration the disruption to my tenants. I paid half the cost up front. All went well at first. They showed up on time and demolished the first tub. I drove up the next day to make sure the tile guy, John M, knew what I wanted. I am a perfectionist, and I was uncomfortable with the fact that I had not had a call from him to go over what I wanted, despite asking for contact. Sure enough, he'd bought the wrong tile. But I decided to use it, for a small upcharge, rather than delay. John M hired a couple of guys to do the actual tile work. I showed him exactly where I wanted a pre-fab shampoo niche to go, then I left. I live 90 miles away from the property, so I wasn't able to be there every day. I asked for him to text me pictures, but I heard nothing. I got my tenants to send me pictures instead. Each bathroom was supposed to take 3 days. The first tub was done on schedule and they started the second. So after a few days I got photos of the second bathroom from my tenant, and I saw the shower niche was not placed exactly where I had specified. I wasn't pleased, but it functioned, so I got over it. Then I got a call from the owner of the apartment downstairs. There was a ton of water coming through their ceiling because apparently the workmen hadn't hooked up the tub drain properly to tub #2. This was scary to me, thinking of insurance claims, etc., but Holman took responsibility and said they'd take care of it. I appreciated this professional approach, and the fact that I didn't have to argue with them about it. I once again visited the site to see the progress after tub #3 was done, and I wasn't pleased with the colossal mess the workers had left behind. They'd torn up the drywall and just left it damaged, along with a broken door frame, torn-up and discarded baseboards, grout on the linoleum floor, and trash jammed in the corner. The tile supervisor, John M, was nowhere to be seen, but there was a different crew of tilers working on the last tub. They didn't speak English, and I had to pantomime what I wanted them to do with the shampoo niche, which they apparently were surprised to know about. They had half the tile done even though the tub was clearly not level and one end of the grout line was nearly an inch wide. I called Holman and they sent a supervisor out to look. I had worked myself up for a fight, but they acknowledged the problem and said they'd be out the next day to tear out the tub and redo it. No fight necessary. A few days later, the last tub was finally done. I wasn't thrilled with their solution to the leveling problem, because the tiles are cut differently than the other three bathrooms, but again it functions. Meanwhile, they hired a contractor, John D, to come fix all the problems left behind by the other workers. He did a really conscientious job replacing baseboards and drywall, trimming the bottom of the tubs where they met the floor, etc. I wasn't pleased with the texture he applied to the wall because it didn't match the existing texture, so he came back and redid it. However, I feel he did way more work than he got paid for by Holman, so I gave him some extra money. There were a few other problems, nitpicky things with a drain and some grout, which Holman had somebody come fix. In the end, I was satisfied with the result, but we went way over schedule due to the tilers showing up hours late or not at all several times. Holman sent a guy to meet me on the last day to make sure I was happy. He told me they'd fired the tile guy, John M, because of all the problems. I hate to see anybody fired, but that guy really wasn't supervising his people properly. John M also kept a copy of my key and hasn't given it back despite being asked at least 7 times by me and by the Holman people. This is an outstanding issue. On the plus side, the company ended up billing me the original fee and didn't tack on the extra tile charge, so I figure that makes up for the extra money I gave their handyman. All in all, I appreciated Holman's willingness to stand behind their work and make everything right, but I think they need better subcontractors if they want to be successful in the remodeling business. I recommend them, but only if you can personally stay on top of the job as it's going on. Also, make sure everything is put into the bid, if you want a turnkey project. I got some pushback about fixing the drywall at first, because technically it wasn't listed on their bid."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Bathrooms are naturally moisture-rich environments, so choose a durable, water-resistant tile for your tub surround. Porcelain and ceramic are two popular options that are also quite affordable. Glass is another good option that’s also low-maintenance—you just need a glass cleaner like you would use on the bathroom mirror. Natural stone tile is porous, but it’s still a viable option if you choose it in a glazed version.

It’s easiest to start from an edge as it gives you a straight line. A problem may arise if your edge doesn’t line up perfectly, in which case it’s best to start from the center. Some think that starting tile from the center adds a focal point in the center of the hearth.

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.

Add a T-shaped spacer to each corner of a tile when placing it. You’ll want to nudge the tiles closer together so the spacers are touching each corner. When you’re done installing your tile, you can remove each spacer, wash them, and use them for your next project.

Yes, tile floor removal is a physically demanding project that takes between eight and 12 hours per 100 square feet. It also requires protective gear and closing the area off with construction-grade plastic sheeting to avoid dust and damage to other parts of your home.
