When I looked over William's reviews on Angie's list I saw mostly A's in quality of work and I am in total agreement. I totally understand punctuality and promptness may sometimes be an issue when a job such as mine takes much longer than anticipated. However, I was very pleased that he took the extra time to do it right instead of rushing through it. I was happy to compensate him for the extra time it took but not once did he ask for more money than his original bid.
I might add, too, that he and his crew were very amiable and pleasant to work with! I'll definitely call Anderson's Family when I'm ready for my new deck!
I should have known better when it took more than half a year to get an estimate out of them. I had been patient originally, because I called just before the holidays, and they told me that they would not start until February. When I never got an estimate, I thought that I had misunderstood, and that they meant that they would get me the estimate in February. February came, and no estimate. I periodically sent them email, but did not receive a response until much later (probably July) when I sent one last message informing them that I had another estimate and would go with another contractor if I did not hear from them.
The reason that I let it drag out so long is that I am severely physically handicapped and struggling to deal with this was just too much most of the time.
When they did respond, they informed me that their email was down and they had computer and internet issues. They were to use this excuse three times over a period of about eight months, eventually saying that the internet, wifi, and computer were all down over extended periods of time. This began to wear thin as an excuse, especially as those three reside in completely different places and are unlikely to all simultaneously go out at once, and keep going out for nearly a year while the business owners do nothing.
It was particularly galling that it took more than a week and five emails to get the receipt out of them, something that I had been told that I would have "within 5 minutes" via email. A task of minutes took more than a week for them to do, but they had an excuse (computer/wifi/internet not working).
The work itself was of poor quality, and they simply did not finish, despite numerous requests. Specifically, they had painted the top third of the baseboard strip in the garage, but not the bottom two-thirds, had left a 1" wide white strip unpainted on the garage door trim (dark blue over white, so the unpainted strip stood out like a spotlight), had not painted the door from the garage to the house, and had done a terrible job on the garage interior. They also left the garage door itself unpainted on the interior, despite rust that we had wanted to stop.
Only when I informed them that we were going to get two estimates for how much it would take to finish the job, have another contractor finish, then sue them, did they respond and come out and finish. (They again used the no internet/wifi/computer excuse for not having responded.) Even then, they argued that the door to the house was not included, and that it would cost $300 to redo the garage walls, since they had not included the price of retexturing. This was true even though I had very specifically said that we wanted the garage fully repaired, as the wallboard tape was peeling badly. I did not want the wallboard tape simply stuck back into place with caulking, as they suggested.
They were extremely difficult to work with because of the constant procrastination, even though they knew that we are going to do major remodeling on the interior, with new paint, flooring, kitchen, and two bathrooms. I decided that I simply could not deal with the stress of a contractor with such procrastination issues for major interior renovations.
Oh, and when I told them that their rating had fallen online, they said that that was because they did not purchase as many keywords, and that the rating was a function of how many keywords you purchased. Given that other reviewers in the intervening time (I should have gone back to check again) had experienced the same frustrating procrastination, I doubt that that is the case.
"Dear Valued Angie's List Customer we are sadden to have come upon your review after knowing and left with a 100% customer satisfied response from your husband after doing the final walk thru. We would lilke Angie's customer's to know you emailed us two weeks later being unsatisfied and we called to reschedule to come back and did another walk thru with your husband as you are not able to participate due to your health issues and being bed ridden ( We are sorry and sad that you could not and want you to know we understand how that could feel.) so we set another day to come out and addressed those issues and still read some shocking reponses that we were not aware of until now. We were shocked again when we read that we agured with you about two items that werenot on your estimate/invoice that we go over twice with all our customer's before we begin any project to prevent this and we do not recall this argument ever happening nor would we want to do this with any of our customer's or Angie's List Customer's. We strive every day and every project to be 100% customer satisfied with our several years of expertise in Remodeling and New Custom Homes and the last thing we would not want to do is jeopardize our business and you. We enjoy doing what we do and futher more strive the 100% satisfied and happiness from our customer's after any project is finished. We also read that our Internet was down for several months and it was you that had computer trouble in your home and I remember this conversation from the prior year (2014) and you would get back to me which you did and we laughed becuae you said you were fed up with your computer and you bought a new on and finally could get back with us and I scheduled an estimate day with you. We did in the beginning had internet issures but Suddenlink did come out to fix those issues in three days, it did not take several months so this also sadden me but we understand. We are also are sadden by what you wrote we did poor quaility of work which we did the second walk thru with your husband leaving there knowing he was satisfied we even pointed out the area's we redone that gets excessive amounts of water than normal due to ranin issues which also normal wear and tear on any home and will be having the same issue of resealing it and it makes it unfortnate for all home owners. ( We appolize ) I did resend your receipt several times as I was getting your email's of not reveiving them andyo must of received in your junk or spam mail. Iam sorry for that I have no control over that but our appoligies. So I would like to write one more thing and that isfor all our Angie's List Customer's and Customer's that we enjoy what we do and most importantly meeting new customer's and seeing repeat customer's making them 100% satisfied as we aniously wait for there in person response followed by the final walk thru and especially the Angie's List Review and A for Happiness grade. We alsways are sad to read the poor grades that we felt we deeply worked and strived for getting a 100% or close to B or C grade. We would like to put this also out there for Angie's Customer's that Mr. Anderson is a perfectionist as how each job is finished and we are very excited to reach another award from the Angie's List Team whom are also so Awesome to work every week and also been doing business with them over five years. "Way to go Angie's List Team !!!"
"We thank you for calling and choosing us for completing yur project, it was our pleasure meeting you. Please call again for any questions or anything you might need us for. Thank you for Blessing us and have a great summer."
They would do a lot better if he stayed on the job with his crew. In the end, he had to step in and finish it on his own time anyway.
It is not a good idea to pay these guys before the work is done. They tend to take a few days off after being paid.
They did not provide a punch list. I had to walk through and prepare one for them. I thought it was strange that they did not have any means of quality control.
They had to come back several times to finally get most of items on the list fixed. Some of it didn't get done.
They did not have a licensed plumber or electrician. As a result, we had to hire a plumber to come and re-do most of their work as we spent a lot of money on wood flooring and did not want leaks. We also hired an electrician to inspect and redo some of the wiring.
In the end, I did not feel I got what I paid for in workmanship.
"I'am so sorry to read that you've had such an unpleasent experience with us. Considering that we talk each week, I am surprised that you hadn't brought up any of your concerns! Bill comes and evaluates the situation, then tells what might be and what needs to be done, and when he can start.
Bill's son and another worker arrive and tie into the project and replace the tiles.
The next day they come by to grout and finish up.
I had only good experiences with "Anderson Family Remodeling"x

"We are very sorry for the experience you had with us. Here at Anderson's Family Remodeling we take pride in all work we do. We also do our best to establish a great working relationship with every customer we provide a service to. With that said we did everything possible to make this Angie's List Member happy. We apologize about the product you purchased at Home Depot was not up to par. Our son Bradey did try to fix the leak in the bathroom but the Angie's List Customer did not want us to repair keep in mind this was a very very old dwelling and was difficult to make it as new as we liked it to be for this Angie's List Customer we were running into plumbing problems from the plumber that fixed repairs before this project that was not installed correctly. Our apologies for the scratch in the new tub as it was our fault and we offer to fix but customer did not wish to, we did tried to resolve this several times and tried to change his mind because we want every Angie's List Member's to know that we guarantee the customers will be satisfied with the work we have done. We did take a major loss in our behalf as the customer decided to redo our invoice amount so we accepted that and again we are very terrible sorry and we did enjoyed working with you and your secretary and thank you for choosing our services. I guess its is true that its hard to make every one happy with the service provided no matter how much we bend over backwards to make them happy."

The morning of the work day not only were they on time but a tad early which I found refreshing in this day of "its okay to be late" mentality by many service providers. He and his son worked quick and professionally with a wonderful father/son relationship. I also found this very refreshing and made me feel comfortable and included (very important and often forgotten). They asked questions as they arose, gave advice as needed, and advised me on parts and pieces I needed to replace that were not part of the job at hand. Tips and tricks of the trade were given in order to make my job of tiling easier and more efficient. The work was incredible and exactly what I asked for. When done the kitchen was cleaned and all trash was picked up and placed as requested. After they left I found a small area we both overlooked, I called and they were back at my gate within 10 minutes to finish...simply impressive. They closed and locked my gate after pulling out and I was left with a big smile and feeling of satisfaction at the work that was done. After reading about so many remodel nightmares I would definitely choose this fine Family Company again.
