"I obtained 3 quotes to replace our 4 ton, 2 stage air conditioner/furnace and awarded the installation to Air Systems. Carlos (co-owner) was punctual and analyzed our old system. He efficiently gave us a very competitive price. We scheduled the installation for a few days later. His crew was not only punctual, but he arrived as well to brief and organize them and unpack all of the new equipment. They laid down drop cloths to protect our home. They worked diligently all day with attention to detail. The lead installer Mark showed me how he installed the drain with a wet switch. They took their time to ensure there were no leaks and that the unit operated properly. After everything checked out, they cleaned up and after they wished us a good (cool) evening, you couldn’t tell they had been there. Carlos stopped by 2 days later and inspected the installation himself before notifying the city (permit) that it was ready for code inspection. My wife and I are thrilled with everything from the super-quiet Trane XR-17 to how Carlos’ crew installed it. We will have Air Systems service our HVAC equipment from now on."

"After getting several bids, Mark Morales, owner of Dream Yards came in with the most reasonable quote with lots of ideas to create a one-of-a-kind yard that is now the envy of my neighbors. He worked closely with me to capture all of my wishes and to incorporate them into the design. He allowed me to visit the nursery with him to select plants and to find special plants that were not available. As plantings were installed, we kept adding more to get the lush and full look that I desired. This included a fan palm, mountain laurels, several fruit trees, etc. Due to weather delays, the project took 3 weeks, but he had workers there every day (even in the rain). They were careful to clean up the sidewalk and street each night before they left and they were very friendly and respectful. Mark kept me updated on schedule through texts and onsite visits. He brought in specialists for the lighting and stonework to make sure these sub projects were professional. When it was discovered that one of the new irrigation drip lines was punctured, he had it repaired early the next morning. Multiple change orders were added to the original quote as new ideas came up. Mark fully explained each additional cost during our final settlement and tried to hold expenses down. I would suggest that you discuss any extra work / upgrades before implementation to better understand the costs associated with those changes. Other than that, I appreciated the fact that Mark did not expect any payments until the work had been performed. Many others won't even start a project without upfront payments. This made me feel very comfortable. All work was completed on 3/27/2020. Irrigation system has 5-8 year warranty; lighting has a 10 year warranty, and plantings have 90 days. I will update review after 90 days to cover any follow-up or warranty work. I highly recommend Mark Morales and Sprinkler Management Dream Yards for all of your landscaping needs."

"I had sprinklers marked that needed attention, mostly either with a too high or a too low water spray, including 5 sprinklers with possible leaks.  One sprinkler would come up but no water, it was a small sprinkler head and needed a new head.
Brian with his crew, two men, arrived on time.
I walked around with Brian and he wrote his estimate for $425 plus tax, not counting the initial $49 I already paid. That was an unpleasant surprise!
Each year I have had someone come out to check and do minor repairs on the sprinklers. Last year I even had another sprinkler installed which required digging a 5 foot ditch and still didn't pay more than $200.  This time I figured around $150; $95 for the first hour, plus maybe $50 for parts - (parts are not that expensive).  I told Brian to fix the leaks (the minor adjustments were included in the $49) and to forget about whatever else he put down on his estimate, the $425 just sounded way out of line. Ultimately I paid $211 and still forgot that they also offered a $10 discount for seniors - mentioned in their bio on Angie's List, I didn't get it.   I called the San Antonio office later that day and they claimed the discount was from Angie's and not from their company because of the initial deal of $49!
The owner of Andy's Sprinkler, out of the Austin office, did call later to find out why I wasn't happy and I appreciated that.  It didn't change my impression that they were very expensive.  Now a week later I can't find nor remember getting a receipt which would have shown an itimized list of the cost of parts and repairs. I am a new Angie's member, decided to hire this company because I saw the deal and my intend to use only companies listed on Angie's list, but this was a bad choice, not worth it and unfortunately this first time was an unsatisfying experience.
I haven't been able to run the sprinkler system, we are in Stage 3 water restriction, and don't know yet if the repairs on the 'leaking' sprinklers are indeed fixed, will find out later this week.

Storm Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

While sometimes used interchangeably, screen doors and storm doors have key differences. Screen doors are simple structures, typically composed of just a frame and a screen, designed to keep out bugs while allowing air circulation. In contrast, storm doors are heavier and more complex, built to protect your home's main entry door from weather and intruders. They usually feature an aluminum frame with interchangeable tempered glass and screen panels, allowing you to switch between ventilation and insulation. A storm door offers more protection and versatility but generally costs more than a basic screen door.

Homes need solid construction to survive a hurricane, including these parts:

  • A secure foundation at the right elevation for your home’s flood threat level

  • Hurricane straps to secure your home’s foundation

  • Waterproof basement sealant or rubberized sheeting that directs water away from the foundation

  • A strong, well-attached roof that’s firmly secured to the framing

  • Shutters or roll-down window protectors that you can close outside to prevent broken windows

  • A garage door bracing system to keep high winds from caving in or tearing off the door

  • Deadbolts to keep your exterior doors in place against wind pressure and floodwater

The time to install a storm door varies based on who is doing the work and the complexity of the job. Professional installation typically takes a few hours, often between 1 to 2 hours, ensuring a perfect fit. For a DIY project with a standard, pre-hung storm door, you can expect it to take about 3 to 5 hours. However, if the door opening needs to be expanded or significant frame adjustments are required, the installation could take more than a day, in which case hiring a professional is recommended.

The extra insulation helps reduce energy costs by minimizing drafts and temperature exchange between indoors and outdoors.

Yes, modular homes are typically safe for areas prone to hurricanes. In regions at risk of severe storms, local zoning guidelines often require that these dwellings be built using materials designed to endure strong winds and heavy rainfall, ensuring they meet the safety standards for such conditions.
