"S&J painted the exterior of my house. They were quick to respond, came out the same day and presented me with an affordable estimate. Stephanie and Jose are very personable but extremely professional. They were timely and exceeded my expectations. I plan to use S&J for any future paint jobs and will recommend them to family and friends."

"The paint crew worked for four days. They arrived on time each day and worked full days except for lunch. Very satisfied with the work product and a reasonable price. I plan to hire them again to paint the upstairs bedrooms and baths."

Small jobs welcome

"Brian and Cathy were very informative on paint colors, and which type of paint was the best. They listened and answered all my husbands many questions. They did a very good job and we were beyond pleased with the finished project. We will definitely hire them to do our outside painting and gladly recommend them to others!"

"Carnival Painting did a great job painting my home. The paint coating was thick and just beautiful. The neighbors were commenting on how great of a job they did also. The person leading the work crew was really great in explaining everything to me and helping talk through the decisions I had to make. He really went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy with the job. The whole crew was really nice and intent on getting the job done. I highly recommend them."

"Brian and his son arrived on top and complete the painting of 4 bedrooms and installed baseboards in our garage within 8 hours. The paint itself is the BEST paint work that we have experienced. The trim work was also very good. Brian’s prices are extremely reasonable and you can tell that he and his son take pride in the work completed. Rest assured, if we have any future painting, or similar needs in the future we will seek Brian out first!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.

While power washing isn't a requirement before you stain a fence, it can make the job much easier and faster while reducing manual labor requirements. The stain will not work if the wood is full of dirt and dust, so power washing, sometimes called pressure washing, is a fast and effective way to prepare the wood for staining. Remember that you need to stain or repaint relatively soon after the wood has dried so that there isn’t time for dust and dirt to build up again.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.

You should repaint your fence every 1 to 3 years, depending on the appearance of wear and tear. Weather and usage will factor into how often you should paint another coat on your fence. If you need to replace a few fence boards or posts, you may want to consider repainting the fence to help protect the rest of the fence as well as the new pieces against damage and deterioration from being exposed to the elements.

A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.
