"They were responsive, courteous, all the things that would give them an 'A' normally except for the treatment, it didn't seem to reduce the population of the mosquitoes and that would be important. Part of the challenge is that we live in a creek so it's really difficult to eradicate and if your neighbors aren't doing it, all you're doing is killing your mosquitoes and leaving a gap for the mosquitoes next door to come over. I don't know whether the service offered was of value but they were certainly courteous, on time and all. They called back and offered to do it again. I would use the provider just not that particular service."

Nest Installation questions, answered by experts

No, one snake does not always mean more. While snakes do often congregate in dens to breed, for most of the year, they are primarily solitary creatures that do not travel in groups. A single snake may make its way near your home in search of food, warmth, or shelter.

The best deterrents for possums include securing trash cans with tight-fitting lids, removing outdoor food sources like pet food or fallen fruit, and trimming tree branches that provide access to your roof or an open window. Motion-activated lights or sprinklers can also startle and discourage them from visiting. Additionally, you can take advantage of their strong sense of smell by using garlic, onion, or commercial possum repellents to keep them off your property.

In some cases, a clean house can have roaches, especially if you have excess moisture somewhere. You may want to check for leaky pipes or look underneath sinks to make sure water isn’t dripping near a hidden area that is inviting the cockroaches in. Roaches can also take up residence in clean homes with not-protected food sources, like open bags of food in a kitchen cupboard.

If the snakes in your yard are non-venomous species (like common Rat or Garter snakes), why not consider the live-and-let-live approach? Some benefits of not getting rid of snakes include:

  • They’re great at controlling disease-spreading rodent populations, including rats, mice, voles, and moles.

  • Some non-venomous species (like the common kingsnake) eat venomous species like rattlesnakes and copperheads.

  • Species like the garter snake keep down populations of garden pests like slugs and grasshoppers.

Squirrels rely heavily on their sense of smell and are deterred by a variety of scents. Some of the most effective smells for repelling them include peppermint oil, coffee grounds, white vinegar, garlic, cinnamon, rosemary, and predator urine. They also have a strong aversion to capsaicin, the compound that makes chili peppers hot, making capsaicin-based sprays an effective repellent for areas like gardens or bird feeders. For a DIY solution, you can create a spray from garlic and vinegar and apply it daily. Additionally, squirrels dislike strong, fresh scents, so placing items like strong-smelling soaps or dryer sheets in areas they frequent can also help keep them away.
