"Best Tex Plumbing was sent to our home by our home warranty company. They told us we needed new pipes under our home because our pipes were old and would have problems due to their age. On August 5th Best Tex Plumbing “replaced” our pipes under our home for $2000.00. They did not pull a permit and did not give us a receipt from their company. I suppose they do this to limit their liability with no paper trail. Here we are three months later. We had a stoppage at the washer. The home warranty company sent another company out who said all the plumbing was installed incorrectly and did not have the appropriate parts for pipes under a home. I called another plumbing company out for a second opinion. They agreed that the plumbing installation was wrong. Now we need new plumbing again. Please do your self a favor and do not do business with Best Tex plumbing. They talk a good game and reassure you they work with integrity. This could not be further from the truth! If I could give them a ZERO, I would."

Wells and Pumps questions, answered by experts

It may be time for a well pump replacement if you notice some red flags, like a lack of running water when the pump should be working, consistently poor water pressure, or dirty water, which can indicate potential issues with your pump's functionality.

Options include submersible, jet, and centrifugal pumps. Choose based on water needs and well depth.

The precharged pressure tank should start at around 28 psi. The two pressure settings of note are the cut-in and cut-out pressure. The well pump starts when the tank reaches the minimum cut-in pressure. It turns off when the tank reaches the maximum cut-out pressure. The desired water pressure in the household is usually a few psi above the cut-in number. The difference between the cut-in and cut-out pressure settings should be 20 psi. Typical settings for household applications include 20/40, 30/50, and 40/60.

Hire a local well and pump pro for all well-related issues. This type of professional can inspect your well, pump, and tank, suggest repairs, and fix your well fast. They can also coordinate a water quality test if you’re concerned about the health of your well water. Find a vetted well and pump pro in your area to get your water ship-shape.

You should have your well inspected once per year. You should also have a well inspection done when you’re buying a house with a private well, when the well cap is opened, when the septic tank is repaired, or when there is flooding.

During your annual visit, a pro will make sure that everything is working correctly and check for certain contaminants, including total coliform. Every other year, they’ll look for things like metals and nitrates, and every five years, they’ll test for pesticides.
