Small jobs welcome

"First and foremost, they showed up to give me an estimate. Something that seems to be exceedingly difficult to get people to do. Second, excellent communication before & during the project. Our deck of unknown age/origin, which had an interesting selection of mushroom or some other fungus growing on it (along with some spray painted Greek blue from the previous owners), needed to go. The job was done quickly over the course of 2 days; tear down & build. The site was left clean and they also moved my grills/furniture back up to the deck after completion. Great guys to deal with. We'll likely enlist their services again."

"Honestly such a great experience from start to finish. We had a bunch of random things that needed to be fixed and organized, and I wasn’t even sure where to start. He was patient, professional, and handled everything way faster than I expected. What I appreciated most was how easy and comfortable the whole process felt. Nothing felt rushed, and he made sure everything was done right. It’s hard finding someone dependable these days, so I’m really glad we found him. Will definitely be calling again whenever we need help!"

"Everything went extremely well! The representative, Mr. Keith Hall, was excellent. He made my family and I feel very comfortable during this transition to Knoxville. I not only recommend Mr. Handyman of West Knoxville, but him as well. Absolutely loved the results as well."

"I found this company very professional and they did a great job. They took out a steel door for us and laid 3 rows of concrete block in the opening. Then framed the remaining part of the opening and put plywood to cover the hole. I was so impressed I hired them to build a retaining wall for me."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

Duration varies by project size, but average-sized homes typically take a weeks.

Yes, using certified lumber and engineered wood products for reduced environmental impact.

Carpenters are trained to take on a wide range of home projects. You can hire a carpenter to do framing, roofing, build custom furniture, and make significant upgrades to your home. General carpenters are usually able to handle most jobs. However, you may also choose to hire a carpenter who specializes in a specific type of carpentry.
