This is the Island Home side entrance that we built. There was no side entrance or door there in the beginning. The house was a drab gray and the wood was rotten. We replaced the entire back wall of the house, the downstairs bedroom, bathroom, and laundry room, and created a sitting room, where this entrance is. Built a deck on as well, that was later painted blue.

"First and foremost, they showed up to give me an estimate. Something that seems to be exceedingly difficult to get people to do. Second, excellent communication before & during the project. Our deck of unknown age/origin, which had an interesting selection of mushroom or some other fungus growing on it (along with some spray painted Greek blue from the previous owners), needed to go. The job was done quickly over the course of 2 days; tear down & build. The site was left clean and they also moved my grills/furniture back up to the deck after completion. Great guys to deal with. We'll likely enlist their services again."

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's possible to turn your carport into a living space, but there are additional factors to address over turning it into a garage. HVAC, plumbing, and electricity won't be optional, and you'll need finished flooring, drywall, trim work, and legal ceiling height, for starters.
