"The owner and his father from Fence Haven were very professional, friendly and courteous. They listened to what we wanted and the crew did a fantastic job installing our white pvc picket fence. We get compliments from our neighbors about how beautiful it turned out. We highly recommend Fence Haven for all your fencing needs. Don & Debra Kodak, TN"

"Valley Crest is hands down the best contractor we have ever worked with. He had done more than one project for us, in fact, he does all the builds we have. From our deck to our porch, the projects he has done are the best we have ever seen. ((Wish the site would let us put more than one project down.)) Owner, Clayton, is kind, personable, and ready to solve any task - going above and beyond."

"Professional, respectful and most pleasant experience with Jason and Dustin. At 95, my Mom still lives in the same 50+ year old house in need of a helping hand. “D&J” replaced both decayed front porch posts. They also advised relocating her 4 vertical house #’s horizontally much higher in an open area for better visibility. They also volunteered to trim two large branches hanging low. We love the big difference they made in a short time. High recommendations to them and their work!"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Posts for a horizontal fence should be no more than 6 feet apart. Wood pickets are not as strong when mounted horizontally as when mounted vertically. As such, the fence panels on a horizontal fence can’t cover the same span between posts as a vertical fence can. If you install the posts further apart on a horizontal fence, the fence will lose stability, making the boards more likely to sag.

The best wood for a farm fence is pressure-treated wood that will stand up to various weather conditions, animal contact, and moisture. Farm fences need to resist rot and damage, so choose a species such as cedar or redwood. The natural oils in these woods give them decay resistance, which also makes them ideal for other fence types, such as a wooden snow fence.

Of all the fencing options, the cheapest type is a repurposed pallet fence because it’s made of used materials that are easy to find for free. But if you’re not interested in the DIY game, customize a covered chain link fence or a plain wood fence to provide the best privacy possible.

When deciding to replace or repair your existing fence, consider the 20% rule that fence builders reference. This rule states that if more than 20% of your fence needs repair, you should skip the repair and replace it. Additionally, if your fence is nearing the end of its life, it's often best to replace it.

Repairing the fence is a good option when you have minimal damage or damage from a specific event versus wear and tear. Your fence repair professional can assess the damage and compare the repair price with the cost of a new fence.

Armadillos are attracted to water, so a leaky irrigation system or an overwatered lawn can encourage them to move in. They especially like wet areas where they can burrow and loose soil where they can dig for grubs. They are also attracted to dense ground cover, where they can often find food sources.
