Small jobs welcome

"First and foremost, they showed up to give me an estimate. Something that seems to be exceedingly difficult to get people to do. Second, excellent communication before & during the project. Our deck of unknown age/origin, which had an interesting selection of mushroom or some other fungus growing on it (along with some spray painted Greek blue from the previous owners), needed to go. The job was done quickly over the course of 2 days; tear down & build. The site was left clean and they also moved my grills/furniture back up to the deck after completion. Great guys to deal with. We'll likely enlist their services again."

"Honestly such a great experience from start to finish. We had a bunch of random things that needed to be fixed and organized, and I wasn’t even sure where to start. He was patient, professional, and handled everything way faster than I expected. What I appreciated most was how easy and comfortable the whole process felt. Nothing felt rushed, and he made sure everything was done right. It’s hard finding someone dependable these days, so I’m really glad we found him. Will definitely be calling again whenever we need help!"

"Tristen redid our back deck/porch. At first we thought we just needed to redo the boards on top. However, once he got the top off, we quickly realized that the railing and support beams were also rotten so he had to redo almost our whole deck. He was very communicative every step of the way and made sure we were okay with every change before he did anything. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for maintenance issues or needing a deck repair!"

"Everything went extremely well! The representative, Mr. Keith Hall, was excellent. He made my family and I feel very comfortable during this transition to Knoxville. I not only recommend Mr. Handyman of West Knoxville, but him as well. Absolutely loved the results as well."

"I found this company very professional and they did a great job. They took out a steel door for us and laid 3 rows of concrete block in the opening. Then framed the remaining part of the opening and put plywood to cover the hole. I was so impressed I hired them to build a retaining wall for me."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

It's possible to turn your carport into a living space, but there are additional factors to address over turning it into a garage. HVAC, plumbing, and electricity won't be optional, and you'll need finished flooring, drywall, trim work, and legal ceiling height, for starters. Also, keep in mind that living space conversions may require upgrading the foundation underneath, and the permits might be more expensive as well.

Framing most homes takes anywhere between five and eight weeks to complete. You’ll need to account for inclement weather conditions, material shipment times, the number of crew members, and the weight of your materials. If the weather is too hot, wet, or cold for the installation, this process could take closer to eight weeks.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

Removing a load-bearing wall affects the structural integrity of your home, so you’ll need a permit before starting the work. Building codes vary by municipality, and obtaining a permit and having the work inspected after completion will ensure you’re in compliance with all applicable regulations.

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.
