"Outstanding experience!!! From the initial contact to the finished service. I request a carpet stretch and was told based on the state of the carpet that a stretch would not be advisable because they could not guarantee it would not buckle right away. I really appreciated their honesty. Lost service but they gained a customer forever! They went away and cleaned my carpet and it looked brand new. If you desire a company that is fair, honest, thorough, professional, and skilled - A Step Above should be your choice!"

"Kathy the owner manager worked with us for approximately 2 months in preparing for the repair job. We had problems with laminate flooring due to a dishwasher leak from a newly remodeled kitchen. It took a while to get the company to be responsible for the leak due to a plumber error that the company contracted with. We did not get the finances resolved and just went on to repair the floor. Kathy scheduled us for July and was able to come out on June 17, 2020. The repair did not take long and it looks fantastic. Kathy has excellent customer service and her contractor was superb. If I ever need any flooring again; I will call Carpet Ladies. This company is the very best company that we have worked with during our entire interior house remodeling. I would recommend her to anyone. She personally checked the work when it was finished the same day."

"Itâ s so refreshing when a company exceeds your expectations. Floor Covering International is that company. We recently moved to Franklin and needed carpet for our media room and 3 bedrooms. We had 3 companies provide quotes and FCI won the job. I would highly recommend them for the following reasons. Rich was professional from the start. Showed up on time, with samples that matched what I had requested. He also provided additional suggestions, which I ended up liking more than the direction I was initially heading. He knows his stuff! Quote was provided the very next day with options and I really liked that it included photos of my carpet selections rather than just a name/serial #. After you have looked at multiple samples and are trying to compare 3 bids this little extra detail simplified the process. The pricing was very competitive. The timing sold me, I had my carpet installed in a week. The installers were top notch professional with years of experience. They even trimmed the bottom of my doors. I had to have the padding and extra thick pile carpeting. I am completely satisfied and would recommend you give Rich at Floor Coverings International a call (615) 917-5445. Carpet comes with manufactures warranty and FCI also provides carpet-cleaning services. Support Small Business."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you do not need to put padding or underlayment under carpet tiles. Unlike traditional carpet, which requires a separate pad, carpet tiles are designed to be installed directly onto a firm subfloor like plywood, concrete, or tile. Many carpet tiles come with a built-in underlay and attach with peel-and-stick adhesive, double-sided carpet tape, or glue. For a more comfortable, cushioned feel, especially in residential settings, you can opt for padded carpet tiles that have a thicker underlay attached. While it's generally not recommended to install a separate pad, a compact underlayment might be used in some situations, though this typically requires professional installation. An acoustic underlay may also be considered in commercial spaces or multi-level homes where noise reduction is a priority.

It is not recommended to install or stretch a carpet without a power stretcher. Skipping essential tools like a power stretcher and a knee kicker will likely result in an improper installation, leaving you with wrinkles, creases, and an unappealing final look. While a knee kicker can provide some limited stretching for thinner carpets, it is not a proper substitute. Attempting to stretch a carpet by hand or with homemade tools can also shorten its lifespan. For the best results, you should buy or rent a stretcher. If you do not want to use a stretcher, it is better to hire a professional for the installation.

No, it isn’t less expensive to install carpet compared to vinyl floors. The cost of installing carpet can range between $3 and $11 per square foot, so it falls just over the cost of installing vinyl flooring, at an average of $3 to $7 per square foot. High-quality carpeting can also range much higher, even up to $20 per square foot.

The type of flooring you choose for your bedroom comes down to personal preference. Many people prefer carpet over hard-surface flooring types (such as hardwood, tile, or stone) in their bedrooms because it’s warmer and cozier. Carpeting also helps muffle sound, which may benefit those who have trouble sleeping.

On the other hand, some folks prefer the look of hardwood over carpet. People with allergies might also opt for non-carpeted flooring since carpet fibers can attract dust, dander, and other allergens.

The average cost to install new flooring is around $3,162, with a typical price range between $1,530 and $4,860. On a per-square-foot basis, you can expect to pay an average of $3 to $22, including installation. Several factors influence the total price, including the flooring material, project size, geographic location, and any special features. Material choice is a significant cost driver; vinyl plank, linoleum, and carpet are on the lower end ($3 to $7 per square foot), while stone, tile, and hardwood are more expensive, with hardwood reaching up to $22 per square foot. Prices can also vary by region, and installing flooring on stairs will add to the cost, typically ranging from $11 to $160 per step.
