We are your one stop for all of your residential construction needs. We work with you to achieve your dream result while still keeping a close eye on your budget.

"We hired Mike Hendrickson, aka Kiewit Construction aka DMB Construction Companies, to be our contractor and build an addition to our house. He was very knowledgeable and understood our expectations. After every visit which happened about every 2 weeks, starting late spring of '21, we would review the plans. We signed for the loan end of September. We signed our "contract" middle of October and were told we would break ground in 2 weeks. The weeks came and gone and there continued to be excuse after excuse. I felt as though we were being scammed until lumber showed up end of November in our yard. Then it was another 2 weeks before we heard from Mike. He again said another 2 weeks. Finally it was January and there was no way we were going to break ground but he told my husband we were getting a excavator in 2 weeks due to the company renting them out stopping because of damage being done to them. I reached out to the company and found this to be untrue. I began pulling all the draws from our loan and calling all the businesses he was supposed to pay for materials and the only 2 things that were paid for was our down payment for roofing and siding and the lumber that was sitting in our yard, which we found out in February was not the right size. I called the city to see if a permit was pulled because in December we were told from Mike that he had the permit and everything was good to go. The city said there was no permit and the last permit requested was in November but it was denied. The city then informed me that Mike didn't even have a valid contractor's license. Skip forward to February and we met with Mike and laid out all of our concerns. He brought a new estimate that was 50,000 dollars over our loan and we told him that we cant pay for that and he said our project was getting too expensive and he was having to take money from other projects to fund ours. I looked him in the eyes and asked "is that what your doing to us?" He replied he couldnt because ours was costing too much. After the meeting i knew in my gut we needed to hault moving forward until we had proof he was using the money for our project. I asked for itemized receipts, for the 3rd time, and images of the materials he ordered and gave him 3 days to provide us with this documentation. He said we were giving him ridiculous time lines for this stuff, granted we are 4 and a half months into the project and not even a permit to show, but we were ridiculous? I told him until we get the stuff, we are not moving forward. His response was "I didn't even want to move forward with your project anyways" and "you'll be hearing from my attorney next week because you broke the contract not me". Do not trust this guy with anything. He has yet to get the material from our yard and pay the advances on our construction loan that he took. If you look at Kiewit Construction reviews, you will see we unfortunately aren't the only ones he has affected."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

To upgrade electrical systems in older homes, you might need to reroute new wires with lath and plaster walls. That’s because it’s more challenging to get inside the walls of an older home compared to a modern home, which usually uses drywall. But there are easier ways to level up your electrical game in an older home. For instance, you can swap out an old furnace for a new electric heat pump, or you could use a heat pump for water heating.

Before you start doing anything else, you must call your electric company to confirm their process. It is technically their meter that you’re moving, so there’s really no such thing as free rein. Moving the meter generally involves disconnecting power from the utility company, disconnecting the cables that run into your electrical panel, and dismounting the meter assembly. Once uninstalled, a handyperson will remount and reconnect the wiring in its new location.

Typically, a local home energy auditor is responsible for performing energy audits. A home energy auditor will conduct one of three energy audits designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to determine the energy efficiency of your home. The auditor often provides analysis that can help guide changes and improvements to your home for better energy efficiency, giving recommendations as necessary.

When installing an outdoor outlet, it's important to proceed with caution. Unless you have the necessary training and licensure, it's not recommended to attempt this DIY. First, choose a suitable location. Make sure that the area can accommodate the outlet without overloading the circuit. You'll also need to ensure that your project complies with building codes. Next, turn off the power to the circuit, then install and wire the outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once the outlet is in place, test it. Lastly, be sure to use a cover that will protect it from moisture and other weather-related damage.

The total cost to install a 120V outlet will depend on the type of outlet you choose, labor costs, and any customizations. Standard 120 volt outlets usually cost $3 to $5 each. But say, for example, you customize your 120V outlets with USB ports, you’ll end up paying a bit more at $13 to $22 per outlet. When it’s all said and done, you can expect to pay around $175 for each new 120V outlet and $125 each for replacement.
