"I think they treated the wrong lawn. The note they sent me via text message referenced trees and shrubs in my yard, I have none. They also did not leave a yard marker showing they had been there. Otherwise, this would have been a 5 star review."

Customers say: Quick response

"John Lee has done multiple repair/restoration/remodeling/roofing projects for me, as well as the construction of free-standing outbuildings. Much of this work has been done on a fifty-year-old Frank Lloyd Wright style home which always presents unique restoration challenges. As well as a gentleman, John is a careful, thoughtful artisan, armed with a lifetime of experience and knowledge, pride in his work, and (what must be) a fortune in specialized tools. His work for me has always been wonderful and I could not recommend him more highly."

Lawns questions, answered by experts

Tipping is not mandatory, but is a nice gesture if you are satisfied with the service your lawn professional provided. The amount you should tip depends on your area, service, and time of year. Typically, most people tip between $10 and $100 per crew member. For minor services, people tend to tip less than large jobs.

Most housekeepers won’t handle tasks that require specialized equipment or training, like carpet shampooing, window washing at high levels, or outdoor cleaning. Housekeepers typically dust, vacuum, mop, wash dishes, clean surfaces, and launder linens. It’s best to clarify what services are included before hiring to make sure you’re on the same page.

To eliminate waste without polluting, consider whether it can be recycled, reused, or donated. However, hazardous waste, such as chemicals or electronics, requires special handling and disposal to prevent it from polluting landfills. Organic waste can be composted or converted into fuel at a biogas generation facility.

The growth of tall fescue grass often causes clumps of grass in your lawn. Avoid pulling up the clumps, as it won’t effectively remove them. Instead, dig out clumps and their roots when you notice them early in the growing season. Herbicides can also treat grass clumps, but they can also affect other plants you might not want to kill, so use them sparingly and always follow manufacturer instructions.

It typically takes six to 12 months for leaves to decompose entirely. The process involves the mulch composting into your lawn to deliver nutrients that facilitate grass growth. The recommended process is to spread a thick layer of leaf mulch over your garden and let it marinate for a few seasons for best long-term results.
