"Straight Edge Painting Pros guys did awesome. It was exactly what I had imagined. Wes was very helpful in stating having the drywall ready for paint included priming and repairing imperfections which took an extra day. The guys took the time to make sure the drywall is perfect and ready for me to paint and also installed new baseboards."

"Ziv was excellent. He did a fantastic job removing an accent wall and patching the ceiling and wall. He brought us along, asking for our preferences, checking in. I would request that he come back for a future project."

"Williams Drywall was and excellent choice. I had many repairs from replacing the water pipes in a property and they did a fantastic job. The ceiling looks brand new after they were finished. They did a great job communicating throughout the process and were extremely professional. I would recommend them to anyone who needs drywall and/or painting. Excellent job!!!"

"We had a wonderful experience with this painting business. We are selling our house and got a few estimates to have the entire interior painted. Blue Crew came in with the lowest quote at $10,000. A handyman gave me pause when he told me that there is no way our house could be painted for under $15,000. But the reviews for Blue Crew were so good on Angie's List that I decided to go with them and hope for the best. I am SO glad we did! Not only did they do a terrific job, the crew was super friendly and professional. They even worked around some scheduling glitches that were my fault without a word of complaint. Overall an extremely positive experience for a great price.

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Depending on the place where the cutting error occurred, you may be able to fix it. Learning how to patch a hole in drywall is challenging, but if you can tape and mud drywall, you can do it. Having said that, patching is time consuming. Early in the installation process, you may find that it’s easier and far less time consuming to just start over with a new sheet of drywall, cutting a new hole in the right spot. You may be able to use part of the incorrectly cut piece elsewhere, so it’s not completely wasted.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

There are a few ways to figure out if your walls are plaster or drywall, but the pushpin method is probably the easiest option. To try it, choose a part of your wall where you can insert a pushpin or thumbtack without leaving an obvious mark. If it goes in easily, you have drywall. But if the wall is tough to penetrate, that’s plaster.

Costs depend on damage size, labor rates, and whether additional services like painting are required.

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.
