"Wes was very quick in his response. Wes and Jay came out and repaired my bathroom ceiling. Drywall was replaced then retextured in the same day. Quick and great service. Now I can put my house on the market next week!"

"Mike and Crystal were very professional from the first phone contact through the completion of the work. They showed up on time, their work was neat and they worked very efficiently. My windows were in pretty bad shape. They really took their time and prepped them very well which showed in the finished product. When asked to redo or touch up anything it was done without question. In the end we received a very good paint job on a timely basis and at a competitive price. I have already recommended Mike's Painting to others in my neighborhood and would use him again for future painting needs.

"Bo is very professional, very polite, and just an all-around great guy. He did a great job pressure washing my aluminum sided house, fixed a sagging gutter, removed some mildew from my deck, and was wonderful to work with. Will absolutely hire again!"

"As always with McCoy Plumbing, it was seamless. Eddie installed the new kitchen faucet very efficiently; explained that powder room faucet was calcified but would be replaced by Moen if I asked. I was very grateful for the advice! Will ask for Eddie to come back when the replacement arrives."

"I needed some drywall repair and painting done after a plumbing leak that caused water damage. I called 3 contractors about the job. One didn’t show for the estimate appointment, another couldn’t get me in for at least a month, but Bill called me back within 5 minutes and came the next day to give me an estimate. He had the work done inside of a week (finishing up on his birthday!) and even caught and repaired a small plumbing problem for me. The best thing about Bill is his responsiveness. He always got back to me nearly immediately. That is so hard to find in a contractor. Overall, Bill is an honest guy, who does a good job, and cares about his customers. I will certainly use him again this year for additional projects and would recommend him to others."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

While textured walls can elevate a space in many ways, there are a couple of downsides to consider. Namely, they’re hard to clean, and some textures fall out of fashion quickly. Make sure to consider all your options to find one you truly love before diving in.

You should leave a gap between drywall sheets because they naturally expand and contract along with the building framing as temperature and humidity change. Most pro drywall installers leave a gap of about ⅛ inch between drywall sheets, allowing the sheets to expand, contract, and shift without cracking or becoming damaged. If you don’t leave enough gaps between slabs, the edges will press against each other when they expand, and the pressure can cause visible cracks.

The easiest way to cut holes in drywall for electrical boxes is to use a spiral saw with a drywall router bit. Hang the drywall without cutting out a hole for the box, but make sure you measure and mark where the box is located on the wall. Once you screw in the drywall sheet, drill a small hole into the box void, insert the spiral saw bit, and move it around the edge of the box using the inside wall as a guide. You can also use an oscillating multi-tool with an electrical box cutout for fast, professional results.

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.

While not always necessary, you can glue a drywall ceiling in addition to using screws or nails. Drywall is typically secured to ceiling joists with fasteners, which is often sufficient. However, adding construction adhesive can offer benefits like preventing sagging, bridging gaps, and reducing air leaks for better energy efficiency. It may also be used for specific acoustic or insulation needs. On the other hand, many professionals advise against it because properly placed screws make the drywall structural, glue doesn't add strength, and it makes future repairs or replacements significantly more difficult. Ultimately, it's best to follow local building codes and project-specific requirements to decide if adhesive is right for your ceiling.
