"We had been wanting to install solar panels for two years and waited until we had found a company we wanted to work with. SCSP is run by people who have solar panels themselves and have high standards for making their design match customer electricity consumption. We have some shade on our panels, and they accounted for that in their design. We are making the electricity we expected to make. Our questions were answered with a lot of expertise, and they helped us understand our electricity bill which is a little confusing at first. SCSP is well-regarded by roofing companies and has longevity in the business, both of which was are important to us. We recommend SCSP highly."

"I had a water leak in my 2nd floor bathroom leaking onto the driveway below.  I checked Angies list and found Servant Plumbing.  I called and got an  appointment for Friday afternoon between 3 and 5.  Tech called me at 4:45 and said he was on the way.  I told him the  work was outside and it would be dark before he got here.  He agreed  to come Monday mornng which he did.  After tearing part of the ceiling out over the driveway he found where a handiman from last year shot a 2 1/2" brad through the water line and started to leak.  We noticed where there were green areas on the copper piping that might leak later.  Louis recommended changing out all of the piping in that area and quoted me a price.  I had him look at my hot water heater which had much corrosion on the water lines going into the heater and he recommended changing it out as it might explode in the near future.  The heater is located in a small room next to my den and within 2' of my mmain electrical panel.  With this I agreed to change it out to a new gas tankless water heater.  The cost was high but I ws concerned about the unit exploding soon.
I asked for a breakdown in labor and material for the leak and the heater seperate.  Rinnai warranty required a copy of the invoice which they wouldn't provide.  I got a  phone call from the owner, Louis Puglisi, and he said that he didn't want to provide that information.
The next morning at 5:30 I received a 2 1/2 page email from him.

He stated that Rinnai only gives a 5 yr on parts and 1 yr on labor which is not true if you register within 30 days (read warranty on  line).  Also if I do not register with Rinnai I loose my 12 yr warranty on the heat exchanger.  I would like to get a copy of his warranty papers. as he says he warranties for 5 yr parts and labor.  I was origionally told by his tech that his work was warrantied but not for how long.  I hope he never goes out of business.
I questioned his rates at around $200 per hour.  Other Angies list reviews thought that his rates were high also.  The bulk of his email was about how he gave me a quote, which I accepted, and that flat rate pricing was the way to go.  He said "I know other companies like ARS would have charged you $8,000 to $10,000 and that's NOT an exaggeration."  A quote from his email said, "The underlying issue is you're very frustrated because you feel you were overcharged.  I'm not sure where this notion came from, but I can only speculate, sinceyou mentioned 12 hours at $200 an hour, wanting a cop of OUR invoice showing what WE paid for the water heater(that's not going to happen, that's private information.  And to be honest, you would be the first person in 25 years that has ever asked me for such a thing) wanting a complete breakdown on the invoice."  Another quote from his email was "Heck, WE don't even try to calculate the amount of hours it takes to do a job like yours.  Sam, we didn't just rebuild a couple of faucets here.  This was a highly skilled and highly involved job we pulled off for you.  Converting over from an electric to an exterior gas tankless?  Running gas lines, insulating water lines???  Nobody can predict how long a job like that is going to take.  Nobody.  We applied a "rough amount of hours" to your job.  We factored in anywhere from 10 to 24 hours." The hot and cold water lines along with the gas line were approximately 10 feeet from the new location.  A 10 to 24 hour estimate to install a new heater with all close by, for a company that says they are professionals and does this kind of work, is a very wide window for just installing a new hot water heater within 10 feet of the old one.
He also had a problem with me telling Louis, technician, to go home at 7:30 PM and having him come back the next day to finish work as he still had several hours work left and also had to go to the store to purchace pipe insulation.  The work was mostly outside and dark at 7:30 and he only had a handheld light to see with.  On top  of that he ran the power and thermostat line exposed on a totally seperate path from the water lines and it stood out like a sore thumb.  The next morning I gave him a piece of flexible tubing to protect the electrical and thermostat line in and had him rerun it with the new water lines.
The new water heater works good.  I now wish that I had put it back into the same room inside area as the old heater due to the looks but that is my fault.

"At first I was skeptical about getting solar panels. I thought it would be too much trouble and not worth the time. I was wrong!! After talking with Nick Zink we had our panels installed and 6 months later we have seen amazing savings on our power bill. I also cannot say how amazing Nick has been. He walked us through and ensured every concern or worry was resolved before the install and personally walked through the process and checked to ensure everything was done on time. The installation went seamlessly and ahead of time, they cleaned thoroughly afterwards, and the respect they showed was incredible. If you get solar panels ask for Nick Zink. I trust no one else."

"I can't begin to express my gratitude to Paul Zimmer and Detail Solar. I had a disaster created by a windstorm which caused my solar inverter to detach from the house and flip upside down. The conduit, cutoff boxes and wiring were all hanging precariously. Each day that went by caused more stress as all that heavy equipment pulled further and further away from the house. I called the company that installed the solar, only 18 months ago, only to find out that they had gone out of business and disappeared. Also, no one close to my address was interested in servicing my need. Fortunately, one day I happened to look on Angie's List and found a company with a Greenville address that did solar repair. I didn't even complete the application because I didn't think that someone from Greenville would come all the way to Myrtle Beach to fix my problem. To my surprise, Paul called me the same day and SHOWED UP THE VERY NEXT DAY to start the process of removing all the damaged equipment and wiring from the house. He made the house safe from any further damage and hauled off the debris to the local dump. Two weeks later, he and his crew showed up to totally upgrade my system, fix the siding and get my panels producing power again. I have since referred him to others that have solar problems and will continue to support him and his team any way I can. The bottom line is I didn't know that honest, thorough and quality people like him were still around. Do yourself a favor and hire Detail Solar for anything solar and you will absolutely be amazed."

"The Solar panels was installed on a ground mount.
It was a design that I could use the space underneath for storage.  I did not want a metal system so Renewable
Engineered Systems; built a solar racking system from high end wood, designed
for boats. It was creatively built and they cleaned up all around.

Job site was left clean. System works great.

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

Yes, going solar really saves money. In fact, according to some calculations, the average homeowner who switches from electric to solar power will save almost $2,000 a year on energy costs. While buying solar panels and switching to solar can be costly up front, the savings add up over time. If you can sell back extra energy or take advantage of tax incentives, your savings can be even higher.

You’ll need to make sure you have a big enough solar panel to meet your well pump’s power demands, but you can use solar power to fully operate your well pump. It’s also a good idea to have battery storage to hold the solar power so you can still use your well pump after dark.

Rooftop solar panels supply energy to a single household, where a solar farm can power multiple homes at once with clean energy. Residential rooftop solar panels cost more per watt with a lower project total, and those panels only service the residence they are installed on (in most circumstances). With a solar farm, multiple households can buy into the project and share the overall cost.

Solar panels should get at least four to six hours of direct sunlight daily. It’s even better if sunlight reaches panels between the peak hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. This is enough to power a home, depending on your solar system’s size and energy needs. Remember that panels will generate some power under cloudy skies or in the shade, and many systems compensate for lower sun exposure by drawing energy from the grid or battery storage.

Insurance companies aren’t against solar panels, but they may have concerns about the risks and costs of insuring solar. The type of policy, where you live, and the insurance company itself matter. Extreme weather can damage solar panels, and faulty installation or electrical malfunctions pose a fire risk—this, in turn, can increase insurance company liability and payouts. However, you’re likely to keep coverage as long as you have a pro install the solar system, keep it maintained, can pass a solar panel inspection, and update your homeowners policy to include solar.
