"This company did an excellent job installing porcelain tile on our screened porch. They helped us select the tile and pattern, and completed the project in a timely manner at a reasonable cost. Our neighbors who saw the porch were also very impressed. When we discovered that the screen door did not quite close correctly, they responded promptly and fixed the problem. Because of the quality of their work and their professionalism, we would not hesitate to recommend them for any flooring project."

"I can’t say enough about this company. They were on time and very personable. Fantastic job. They know what they are doing. Have been installing for 20+ years. Didn’t take long at all, about 5 hours. We had called 3 other company’s for an estimate and Joe was the best and very comparable. Had quote within a day and we went to his business and he helped us with picking the floor we explained we wanted. We’ll be using them again when we replace our other rooms in our condo. Thank you Joe"

"Nick and Carlos are great to work with, in my opinion I think directions need to be written down and communicated to the labor a bit better. Over all the project came out really better than we envisioned so that negates any negative. Armando who laid the tile was very attentive to detail and takes a lot of pride in his work."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile will almost always last longer than laminate flooring, regardless of the type of tile installed. Porcelain tile can last for 75 years or more with proper care, and even less durable ceramic tile will last for 60 years or more, provided they’re installed by a tile professional. On the other hand, laminate flooring has an average lifespan of around 20 years, and you might only get 10 to 15 years out of low-cost laminate flooring. As such, tile will add far more value to your home than laminate.

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.

It’s best to install a shower door after the bathroom tile is in place to ensure you have accurate measurements. If you try installing a shower door first, the tile might be too thick to install afterward, or the tile will be too thin and create a gap between the shower doors that allows water to leak. With the tile in place first, you’ll know the exact shower door size that you need.

The underlayment determines a ceramic tile’s sturdiness, and a cement board or backer board works best. Be sure to tape the joints when using these materials, and consider laying it on top of a layer of thin-set for more stability.
