"After calling several tree removal/stump grinding businesses--one of them 3x, but they never returned any of my calls--Joseph, Elite Stump Grinding, called me. In this case, I guess, the 4th time was the charm. I explained the situation with an approximately 8.5" tree stump that needed to be removed. Based on my description, there were 2 options: 1) he could come and inspect the situation and then quote a price; or 2) he could give me a quote over the phone. There was no point in having him come 2x, so Joseph gave us a quote over the phone. The day we scheduled was the hottest day, with the humidex factor reaching 107 F. I was worried and called Joseph to note that I would be ok with changing to a different, cooler day. He assured me that he would be OK. In addition, I discovered that when I was removing dirt from around the stump, the root area was much more substantial than I had realized. As a result when he saw the situation, Joseph noted that it would take a little longer than he had expected. However, he did not advise us that he would have to charge more as a result of the additional work. He set up a protective barrier around the stump area, and got straight to work. Afterwards, he cleaned up and raked to provide a flat, even area. My husband and I are both very impressed with Joseph's superb work ethic, professionalism, and friendliness, and thankful that he went the extra mile. In fact, we gave him more than the quote to indicate our appreciation of these qualities, as well as the quality of the work he did. Pressure-treated wood can not only be painted and stained, but it should be; doing so will help to prevent surface or deck board cracking. Allow the wood to dry out before painting it, as pressure-treated wood from the hardware store takes longer to dry than kiln-dried lumber. If water beads on the surface, it needs additional time to dry—in fact, it can take weeks or even months to fully dry. As soon as the wood absorbs water on the surface, it is ready to be painted or stained.
Adding a second coat of stain to wood can even out the color to some extent, but it won't drastically alter the hue if the initial application is too light or too dark. It's more effective at enhancing the richness of the color rather than significantly changing it. Ensure the first coat is dry before applying the second.
The number of coats you need to apply when whitewashing a surface depends on how opaque you want the final product to be. If you're going for a transparent, barely there look, a single coat or two may suffice. For fuller coverage, you'll want to use multiple coats. Another option is to use a less diluted paint to get a thicker coverage.
Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.

Treat the fence with a wood sealant to protect it against the elements. It’s recommended to reseal a fence every two to three years, but if you live in a harsh climate, you may want to do it more frequently than that.
Restore the fence if it’s old, corroding, or fading. That includes cleaning it and making small repairs where needed.
Paint the fence in a color that you like, whether that’s a simple white or more vibrant option. Fences usually need to be repainted every one to three years.
