"I had the guys from OneWay Electrical handle several electrical projects for me and all were done efficiently and effectively. They changed a bad ballast in the fluorescent light in my kitchen that has rather tall ceilings. They installed USB and plug outlets in the wall above a recently installed counter, took down an old light fixture and hung a ceiling fan/light replacement and installed switches on my attic lights in place of the pull strings that continued to break. For the projects I did not already have supplies for they bought the supplies and came ready to install them. Excellent gentlemen to do business with."

"on time with rinders and on way call. stayed on task but pleasant and answered amy question. consulted about chpices, notifiede in advance if part had to be ordered, offered me choices and advice, totally professional and charming. Felt so at ease. switchboard Amy just as great. So good, I looking at hiring their sister company on plumbing, Rooter. it is always a "blind date" on hiring by phone, but this was a "dream daye." Highly recommend."

"We were desperate to get help with our electrical issues, and no other company had any availability for days or even weeks. Mr. Electric sent someone out immediately. Josh, the technician, was so helpful. He took the time to listen to everything, was unfailingly polite, checked every outlet, and gave us the answers we needed. I can't recommend this company enough."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

When choosing a mounting bracket, you have the option between flush mounts and downrod mounts. Flush mounts are the better option for low ceilings as they feature a lower profile. Downrod mounts are the optimal choice for rooms with high ceilings as they offer a pole that adjusts the height of the fan.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where a standard light fixture is, as the electrical wiring is often similar and may not need to be replaced. The most important step is to ensure the ceiling can support the fan's weight and motion. You will need to replace the existing light fixture's electrical box with a fan-rated electrical box, which is specifically designed to handle the extra weight and vibration. These boxes will be labeled as suitable for ceiling fan support and will indicate the maximum weight they can hold. Before you begin, also consider if you need an extension rod for a high ceiling or a special mount for an angled ceiling.

Installing a ceiling fan where no wiring exists is a difficult and potentially dangerous job that should not be attempted as a DIY project. It is recommended to hire a certified electrician to build the necessary electrical infrastructure. In some areas, building codes require this work to be done by a professional to ensure safety and compliance. Due to the complexity, this type of installation is a significant job that could cost up to $2,000.

Hiring an electrician to install a new ceiling fan may be the best course of action. Installing a ceiling fan requires basic electrical and mechanical knowledge. It also requires holding it up with one hand and in an awkward position, making the installation even more difficult. If you’re uncomfortable with these circumstances, your best bet is to hire a professional.
