"I was reminded that while may electrical contractors have skilled electricians, Rytec stands apart from the rest because of its superior customer service. In fact, Rytec is the Gold Standard for customer service in any business. Here's what happened. I thought Rytec had scheduled a an electrician to come to my house at a certain time two install two ceiling fans where I'd previously had light fixtures, and to replace a third ceiling light fixture that wasn't working properly, Either through my fault or theirs, we had the dates wrong and I was home waiting on the electrician one day before they had him scheduled to arrive. I called, and when we figured out the problem, they pulled someone from another job and sent him to my house ASAP. The electrician then efficiently and neatly did the work in little over an hour, for less than the quoted price. As always, they were consummate professionals - friendly, skilled, and efficient. Considering how great their prices are, Rytec adds up to an unbeatable value. I've hired many electricians over the years, but since I started using Rytec, I'm not interested in using anyone else."

"The furnace took 4 days to get approved( not counting a Sunday) the others were quick but the water heater had to be ordered so without hot water for a week. One ceiling fan was easy but within a year their policy changed and They would not install the one I purchased and had to get a new one approved and then ordered online and took several weeks to get straightened out. Not sure who was at fault, AHS, installer or scheduling with renter. Fee is usually $75 per visit"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

If you’re replacing an old fixture with a ceiling fan, you usually won’t need a permit, but if your electrician runs new wiring for the fixture, you likely will need a permit. Building permits are necessary in most municipalities if you’re making changes to your electrical system, so even if you have partial wiring run to the area and need new wiring installed for added functionality, you’ll probably need a permit. Your electrician should be able to let you know if you need one, and they’ll typically file the paperwork for you.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

The number of blades for your fan poses both advantages and disadvantages. Typically, the more blades on a fan, the better the air distribution and cooling effect, but this also means that your fan will have more wear on its motor. For small rooms, three-blade fans should work fine. For larger areas like living rooms, four or five-blade fans might be the better option.

There are several telltale signs to let you know that your ceiling fan needs servicing or replacement. For instance, if it’s wobbling, rotating too slowly, or if your ceiling fan is making noise such as squeaks, buzzes, and thumps, it’s time to have it looked at by a professional. Not only may it indicate a potential problem with the fan itself, but it could also signal a red flag that it’s improperly assembled or there’s an issue with the wiring.

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.
