Customers say: Quick response

"I’ve been working with Steve Medeiros of SPM Design on a complete remodel of my home, and I highly recommend him. From the start, Steve produced excellent designs that really captured what I was hoping to achieve with the renovation. His ideas were thoughtful, practical, and improved the overall vision for the house. What really stands out is how easy Steve is to work with. As the project evolved and some plans changed—as they often do in a major renovation—he was always flexible, responsive, and willing to adapt the design to make things work better. He consistently came back with smart solutions and improvements. Steve is professional, creative, and collaborative throughout the entire process. If you’re looking for an architect who delivers great design and is genuinely enjoyable to work with, I strongly recommend Steve Medeiros and SPM Design. I’m very glad I found him."

"Artios Architects did a wonderful job on the schematic design and creation of documents for the general contractor. In a mixed used building we converted a portion of the commercial space into two new residential apartments. We selected Jane and Jose to do the architectural design. They made fantastic and creative use of the space to optimize its functional and aesthetic appeal. The result was two new apartments that everyone loves and very easy to rent."

"Vista installed new vinyl siding on our house and I couldn't be happier with the result. Our house looks brand new and I love the color. The communication was excellent! Every step of the project was very organized and I loved how Keith and Brian checked in every few days. The work crew was very repectful of our propery and the quality quality of work is amazing. Overall it was a refreshing, seamless experience. I would highly recommend them."

"Glenn was extremely responsive. I had trouble originally getting any contractors to give me an estimate, but Glenn was there the day after I called, and was able to fit us into a slot the same week to begin the work. The work took about a day and a half, and not only did they install the door they refinished and painted. Basically the finished product looked as if it had been there for years. I will never use anyone else for remodeling projects, Glenn and his crew were really friendly and you could tell they take pride in their work."

"The team at NE Renovations did an outstanding job from the moment I called until long after they finished.  Richard promptly responded to my request for an estimate and provided the best price and services of any local contractor. More importantly, Richard stayed in touch with us every step of the way and was often on-site to manage the team and answer questions.

I was extremely impressed with his organization and planning, ease of communication, and professionalism.  Everything was done above code, properly inspected and corrected if needed, and my comfort and convenience was not sacrificed.  An extremely responsive, professional crew were always working on ever detail and delivering high-quality results. The project was on time and above expectations, especially with the addition of fixtures that really enhanced the environment.

We were extremely concerned about health and safety and Richard did not disappoint.  Aside from the building code requirements, the team provided cost-efficient materials that were environmentally-friendly and safe for children. As an older home, we wanted to insure that lead and other building materials were removed and new protection was added. Having his lead certification and "green" suppliers was a a huge plus.

By far, you can trust NE Renovations to work on your big projects and small repairs and still feel the personalization and honorable service that you should expect.   We were very pleased and feel comfortable having RIchard work exclusively on all of our future projects."

"DCR Construction was the best company I ever hired. I'll bullet point some of the highlights. * Setting good expectations for both price and timeline. Probably the most important and something I cared a lot about for the project. We added some work for change orders, but there weren't any real surprises in the price beyond a few things where the house itself was old (e.g. replacing some old wood in the framing) or things we chose to do (e.g. doing more exterior painting than we originally were thinking. The project would have actually beaten the timeline originally given to us except some of the things we ordered from other vendors took longer than we expected. This team held up their end of the bargain on timing. * Very communicative. We set up a chat group on whatsapp early between myself, Daniel, and my wife. This was great as we could get answers to things quickly, and he could communicate with us about what was coming next in the project. * Professional and efficient staff, and high quality work. All the folks I interacted with both from Daniel and the subcontractors were great to interact with. My neighbors commented that they were always respectful and friendly when working as well. All the people I interacted with seemed to care about their work and it showed in the finished work. I wasn't around for all the inspections but the ones I was around for went smoothly, and it never seemed like we were blocked on inspections or the city throughout the process. We've been living in our newly renovated house for a few weeks now and it's been pretty great. We've already been recommending Daniel to some of our friends who are considering projects. If we had to do another project, I would go straight to DCR Construction without hesitation."

Architects questions, answered by experts

British architect John Nash is credited with creating the Italianate style of architecture. The style was further popularized in the U.S. by landscape architect Andrew Jackson Downing and architect Calvert Vaux. The style spread across the U.S. due to Downing’s popular book on the style and the availability of plans and materials due to the mass production of the Industrial Revolution.

As with most large-scale home renovation projects, you’ll need an architect to map out the exact layout and specs of your above-garage room, which is required in many municipalities. Some general contractors will serve as your architect, or they may bring on a residential architect to assist with the plans.

Most Greek Revival architecture homes are one and a half to two stories, depending on the footprint, which sets them apart from some Federal architecture homes that are three stories. The gabled roof on the second floor can sometimes cut into the living space, especially on smaller homes of this style, which leaves a much smaller living area upstairs.

You likely need to hire an architect for your new house design and build, unless you have the design skills and experience with building regulations and standards needed to get your plans approved. If you are able to meet the design requirements, you can hire a draftsperson to create the blueprints for the builders to follow.

Universal design is a design concept that states that products, spaces, and general environments are designed to be used by everyone, with an emphasis on accessibility for those with limited mobility or other special needs.
