"It went well. They are being professional in their follow-up as they are trying to have us install an expensive basement drainage/pumping system. We haven't decided yet, as it will be part of our basement gut/rehab project."

Small jobs welcome

"Steve got back to me right away about installing a work sink and we made the appointment for the following week. He was prompt, personable and kind, answered all my questions and went above and beyond on the job. Though it took longer than he had anticipated he honored the estimate heâ d given me. I will be calling him for my next plumbing job!"

"I am very happy with the work provided by JMB Plumbing. They did a fantastic job installing a new water heater. They arrived well before the time appropriated. They were very professional and honest. They were clean and quick with the installation. However, they overcharged me $ 41.85. over the stated price. I spoke with Jim and he said he would send a refund. Two weeks later; no check and doesn't return my calls."

"Jeff M. was the technician for the annual service for my two sump pumps in the the basement. He was very nice and completed the job in a timely fashion. The product itself that we have of a french drain system and 2 sump pump works and we have not had any water in the basement since getting it installed. I would recommend Busy Dogs product to anyone."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

Submersible and pedestal sump pumps are two popular types of sump pumps. Submersible models are covered by water in a sump pit, which helps keep the motor cooler and quieter. Pedestal sump pumps stick out of the sump pit, so the motor stays dry and is easier to access. Submersible sump pumps are the pricier option, but they also have longer life spans.

Thankfully, you do have a few sump pump backup options in case it fails. One option is a battery-powered backup sump pump. Another option is using a portable backup generator as a power supply for your sump pump. Unlike a battery-powered backup which has limited power, a generator can run around the clock for as long as you need it.

Or you can opt for a water-powered backup pump, which uses your home’s water supply as a source of power. However, this may not be the best option if you find your house frequently has low water pressure.

Yes, it’s normal (and beneficial) to have a small amount of water in the bottom of your sump pit. It shows that your system is collecting groundwater, rain, and excess water from around your property—just like it’s supposed to. However, if the sump pit is always full, you might have a leak or a faulty sump pump.

Every three to four months, you should clean any dirt and debris off of your sump pump. You should also check the inlet screen (at the bottom of the pump) to make sure that it isn’t blocked. On top of that, you should deep clean your sump pump once per year—or hire a sump pump pro to do it for you.

Test regularly, clean the pump, and inspect the discharge line to ensure efficient operation.
