"Bob at Try-County Plumbing did a terrific job replacing the lateral sewer line for me. He was very responsive to texts and phone calls, explained everything that had to be done, gave written estimates and stuck to them. I also appreciated the fact that he gave thoughtful answers to my questions, even consulting the inspectors and getting back to me, rather than giving a quick response. He worked well with the township and the inspectors, and he finished the job in an exceptionally quick timeframe, due to a closing deadline. I was dealing with Bob from out-of-state, and was happy to complete the entire transaction without having to travel to the site. I would give Bob more stars if I could, rarely is it an actual pleasure to work with someone."

"This is by far the best experience with a mere estimate I've ever had. First trip, their rep sent a camera down my line, and found a serious blockage that the previous day's snaking (performed by a different company) had missed. Once the blockage had been cleared, he came back, confirmed all was well ... and then recommended AGAINST anything that would require me to pay him money. After two FREE visits that proved instrumental in diagnosing and correcting a serious blockage in my sewer, he actually recommended that I take no further action and just hydro-jet it every other year. Remarkable service, honesty, and professionalism. These guys are now #1 on my list of people to turn to if I even need help with my sewer."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If you’re not using a septic system, problems with your home’s plumbing won’t cause this—it’s a city problem. A large blockage in the municipal sewage lines may cause those lines to back up into your home. This is extremely unpleasant and can be a serious health risk due to bacteria and other contaminants. If this occurs, call a pro (or your city) immediately.

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.

A sewage smell in your crawl space is usually from a damaged or clogged pipe leaking sewer gasses or actual sewage underneath your home, but there are some other common causes. Moisture, from poor or damaged encapsulation or a malfunctioning sump pump, can harbor mold and bacteria, causing a musty smell. Pests can also get stuck in your crawl space and die, which causes a sewage-like odor.

Depending on the home, wastewater either goes into a septic tank and seeps back into the backyard or is sent via sewer system to a local sewage-treatment plant. Septic systems naturally separate different components of the waste so that it can naturally and safely disperse it. They are usually reserved for homes not served by a municipal sewage department (like rural homes). A treatment plant, on the other hand, speeds up that process through screening and purification.

Your sewer pro will take about an hour to complete your sewer line camera inspection. However, if your home does not have cleanout access and the pro needs to remove the toilet to access the sewer line, the time to completion will take longer. Note that this estimated time does not include the time for repair, drain cleaning, or any other services you may need.
