The glass break sensor was a bit sensitive to loud noise such as cabinet door closing and door sensor repeatedly falls off and had to be reattached. "The job went very smoothly. The tech ran a bit late, but he called to say so. He installed a keypad by the front door and assessed the house for security. He suggested, since there are several casement windows in the living room and adjoining dining room that a breaking glass sensor would work better and be more cost-effective than alarming all the windows. He did alarm a door that the previous company (inherited when we bought the house twenty-three years ago) had not considered significant. I feel safer with the current sensor choices than the ones I had before.
He took the time to make sure I knew how to use the system, so I am very pleased with the service. My one caveat: I was told that the motion sensor would not register my smaller pets (two cats) because they weigh under forty pounds. They must have set off the sensor, though, because the police responded. The system certainly alerts the authorities, but that motion sensor is very sensitive!

"After researching the myriad of available options for home security, which also included complaint/resolution research at the BBB, I was most pleased to find that ProTecht stood out as being the most customer friendly of our security considerations, as well as being a local company, of which is comforting as I knew that if I were to have any questions or concerns, that I would not be routed to a call center outside of the US, which is quite difficult, at times.  Contacting ProTecht via telephone to the Avon, Indiana location resulted in the owner, Theo Garber, taking the call, being most helpful, and scheduling an appointment quite quickly.  Theo arrived right on time, and possibly, a bit sooner.  Explanation of the products available and application according to our needs was explained quite well; Theo patiently answered all of our questions and concerns and at no point did we ever feel as if any of our questions were silly, as Theo patiently listened and patiently answered our questions.  After the assessment for equipment and security, an appointment was scheduled for installation, of which Theo called prior to arrival and arrived on time, or even possibly sooner.  Upon installation, it was determined by all that some additions and deletions were in order, of which Theo was quite flexible with options and helpful with his input.  It seems to be the goal of Theo to assure that the customer is happy and comfortable with the security system and spends as much time as is needed to assure the comfort level of the customer.  After completion of the installation, Theo patiently explained the workings and variances of the system, assuring that we were comfortable with the operations.  As well, Theo stated that we could call him if we had any questions or concerns.  In regards to the price of the security system, given that we had changes/alterations during installation, the price would go up a bit and down a bit with the end result being much the same as the original quote.  Much to Theo's credit, when the price went down, it still seemed to be Theo's focus on customer satisfaction and comfort, as well as the best security option, rather that losing a few extra dollars.  Theo spent alot of time with us, from initial assessment to installation to all of our questions.  I would recommend Theo to anyone.

"Juan responded to our initial email within 24 hours and was able to do the work within a week of the estimate.  His crew was GREAT!  They arrived on time every morning (job took 4 days) and were friendly and professional.  There was an issue with the drywall around a door, but Juan came out to look at it, solve the problem and keep his crew on time.  We are very pleased with the quality of work, cleanliness of the jobsite and his willingness to fit our job in before the Christmas holiday.

"First the good:
The up front cost cant be beat since all of the sensors and control panel were no cost to cover 20 doors and windows.  Installation was pretty straight forward and the phone reps were fairly knowledgeable and professional.  I added a couple features like an extra key pad, siren and glass break sensors that cost aprox $350.  The extras were a little pricey but compared to the $2000 another provided quoted, it was still a deal.
The control panel is cellular based so cutting your phone lines will not effect the alarm.
Now the not so good:
The quality of the sensors has not been very good.  I have had 2 DOA when the packages arrived new and 2 failed within several days.  When I contacted Protect America they were very nice about sending me new ones, but it took weeks and a couple calls before I saw the first replacements.  The second set of replacements that arrived for the failed units ended up being the wrong sensors.  Their shipping department does not seem to have good quality control.  The next very annoying element is the wait time on the phone when you are trying to get anything set up.  I spent a couple hours on hold working through the set up the first time and at least an hour the second time when I installed the replacement sensors.
Some cautions; make sure you hide the main control panel because if an intruder disables it before the alarm has sounded for 60 seconds, the police may not be notified.  Also they only call to check if everything is ok if the alarm is not canceled for 60 seconds.  So you can not be sure if the signal is getting through.
Monthly monitoring fee is high, but since the system was intially free, even after 3 years it is still the cheaper route.
Now that I have the equipment, once our contract is expired I will find a different alarm provider that responds to every alarm.
