"Chris replaced a backsplash in our new house. The previous owner had installed subway tile himself and it was done horribly. Chris came highly recommended by a previous client, and he did not disappoint. Chris was on time and professional. He removed the previous backsplash, replaced the drywall, and installed the glass mosaic tile we purchased. Chris advised us on grout and offered additional decorative decisions; the end result surpassed what we envisioned. We highly recommend Chris for any tile work and will definitely use him again for future projects."

"Fabiano and his son, Will, did an excellent job of staining and installing crown molding in our HAVERTOWN, PA kitchen. Both gentlemen are “good people,” hard working, responsive, and earning of high praise."

"From start to finish they came in on Friday and completed by Monday all before the 12. The work is impeccable and I will hire them again. I went from a brown linoleum floor to beautiful white marble tile floor. Also Updating my vanity and toilet. So with a short amount of time I have this beautiful bathroom. What you see now is the before/after brown linoleum floor bathroom to a beautiful updated modern bathroom. Now styling is needed be done and once my larger mirror is put in my upgrade will be completed. So excited on what was done here. We will hire them again. Highly recommend."

"Josh, the representative that explained of the remodel was informative, professional and friendly. Carlos, Mike C., and Rafael were great. Professional, clean. and friendly. Answered my questions, and completed the job in one day, despite the large amount of work required to remove all of the tile in our full size shower and installing a tub. Happy is not a strong enough word to describe how we feel about our new bathroom...highly recommend!"

"I will start by saying that every single person who worked on our bathroom, from the team that did the demo to the people who did finishing touches, was so nice and kept everything as clean as they possibly could. You hear horror stories about renovations and this is definitely not that but I will say I do not believe I got what I paid well above average for - less stress and more attention to detail. I thought having a designer and a project manager would make the whole process less stressful. Even with the significant sum I paid for the designer, things were overlooked and decisions ended up being made on the fly, without consulting me. The big ones were 1) installing a custom shelf that was significantly too small for the space and filling the large gap with caulk instead of just admitting the measurements were off and they needed to order a new shelf. They did ultimately replace and reinstall the shelf at my request. After months of waiting for the new shelf to be installed, there is still a big gap but it’s in the back and I just want to this to be over so I’m not asking for it to be fixed. 2) The spacing of the tiles in one area of the bathroom required some problem solving because they didn’t fit evenly along the wall. The way it was done initially looked sloppy. They were willing to redo it but this required me to purchase more materials. I wish I had been consulted before they were installed. Within 2 months of installation, the grout in our shower cracked. When they came to replace the shelf that they installed even though it was too small, they agreed to fix the grout in the shower. When we got home, we realized the spots where the grout was touched up were done with a totally different grout - one that is not seen anywhere else in our bathroom. This was definitely an odd choice/oversight but mistakes happen… but then when we told the project manager this happened and it needed to be fixed, he told us that the guy just used the grout we gave him! First of all, we did not give this man any grout. Second of all, we are not the professionals here so if this man saw that the grout he thought he was supposed to be using was a completely different color (definitely not mistakable for the grout in our shower) why would he, a professional, not come to us and ask us to confirm that we actually wanted him to use that grout? While the lack of attention to detail and the poor planning bothered me throughout the process, this refusal to take accountability and instinct to blame us for something that we should not and could not be responsible for is what pushed me to leave this review. Lastly, the grout on the walls is a different color than the floor but some of the wall grout color got on the floor in the areas where the floor and wall meet. I thought this would be resolved by the cleaners if they scrubbed it hard enough but they just left and it’s still there. The cleaners also only cleaned the bathroom, not the two connecting bedrooms that were also coated in dust throughout this process like I would have expected."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Whether you want to match your tile trim with grout comes down to your personal preferences. If you match the two, it can help your tiles to stand out while providing a clean, cohesive look. On the other hand, you might opt to match your tile trim with your tiles. The best option will depend largely on your tile design, as well as how it fits overall with the rest of your room.

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.

Technically, you can start tiling in a corner and work your way out. However, it's not traditionally how tiling is done. Instead, work from the bottom middle of the wall. Tile out the entire row with whole tiles before moving on to the next row. Once you finish installing all of the whole tiles, then you focus on tiling the corners.

Grout lines should typically be between 1/8 to 3/16 inch thick. This ensures enough room for the grout to dry properly and makes them wide enough to look clean and professional. If grout lines are too small, it can be easier to see imperfections in the spacing.

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.
