"Alderfer was very responsive to my calls. They came out promptly for the estimate, discussed the options with me in detail, provided me with an estimate in writing. I chose to hold off the door replacement for a few months but the window was ordered & installed in a timely fashion. Everyone that I spoke with (estimator, office staff, installer) were professional & helpful (I work nightshift so have a somewhat problematic schedule). I had also had another company come out but went with Alderfer for their price & professionalism. I'm quite pleased & will definitely be using them again in the future."

"am very pleased with home Genius and its crew. Every single person from project management on down was very pleasant, and offered answers to all my questions. They worked together as a team and didn’t just put the 3 bay windows in, they talked to each other and made sure everything was being put in evenly carefully and completely. Kudos!!!! Thank you all!!!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

Basements are generally required to have windows for your safety. At a minimum, windows should provide an egress in the event of a fire. But basement windows do more than offer a way out; basement windows also offer natural light and ventilation in an area of your home that is otherwise dark and musty.

Window replacement is typically always worth the cost, both from a money-saving standpoint and a comfort standpoint. If your windows are older and significantly damaged, a window replacement can actually save you money in the long term by improving energy efficiency. If your windows aren’t up to code, you may not really have a choice.

An egress window is similar to a regular window. However, this type of window opens fully to allow people to escape the home or rescue personnel to enter the home if an emergency occurs. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be considered a living space.

On average, hurricane windows last between 20 and 30 years. But some windows only last 10 years, while others can last 50 years or longer. Vinyl hurricane windows have a shorter lifespan than aluminum, so invest in high-quality hurricane windows and properly maintain them to get the most out of your investment.

To ensure the longevity and smooth functioning of new windows, regular maintenance is essential. This includes cleaning the glass and frames, inspecting seals for leaks or damage, and reapplying caulking as needed. It is also important to lubricate all moving parts and operating mechanisms to ensure they continue to operate smoothly.
