"Excellent customer service! The crew arrived promptly, Julio explained all they would be doing, and they did it carefully with skill. When they were finished the tree was trimmed and still had a 'tree' shape with branches left for the first leaves of Spring! Not chopped or topped to look like all growth would come out the sides of the branches... Would definitely use again and recommend for sure! Thanks to Julio and the crew - great job!"

"Alex Tree Service did a fantastic job of removing 4 large trees that were close to my house. One of the best experiences that I have had with a contractor ever. I would highly recommend Alex Tree Service. I was going to have them come back next year; however, I will have them return a few weeks to remove more trees and stump removal"

They brought the tree down without damaging our fence or landscaping. The cleanup was great, and their communication throughout the process was top-notch. "Benjamin and his crew were tops! I cannot say enough good things! He contacted me within 5 minutes of my request. I had a quote within hours and three huge trees removed within five days of first contact. The trees were in very close proximity to our home AND electrical line. Leo scaled the trees with ease and did it all one piece at a time. By the end of the day one would never know such extensive work had been performed as they left my yard immaculate and took every last branch with them. All my neighbors were in awe and are getting GF Amador for their own projects! Very responsive and very professional team. I would hire them again without hesitation. Thank you Benjamin and crew!!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

You need to remove all branches affected by Dutch elm disease. If your tree has several affected branches, you will probably need to remove the entire tree. First, consult a pro to be sure that you’ve correctly identified it as an elm tree. Make sure the tree is properly disposed of with a plastic covering or through debarking, chipping, or burning.

Trees naturally want to grow upward, so one may straighten all by itself, though this only comes into play when a tree is leaning just a small amount. For trees growing into an awkward position or those leaning heavily in one direction, the above steps are necessary to ensure the tree gets back on the right path. This also holds true for trees planted in a spot with unstable soil.

Transporting a fully-grown tree requires heavy equipment, typically specialized for the task. A tree spade is a truck-mounted tool that removes the tree from the ground in one location, transports it, and places it in a new hole in a new location. A combination of mechanized shovels and lifts is necessary to move very large trees, and the exact tools often depend on location and the surrounding area.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

In most cases, you should not use a pruning seal on trees after trimming. Applying a sealant can interfere with the tree's natural healing process, and it does not guarantee protection from pathogens. Instead of sealing the cut, the best practice is to support the tree's natural recovery by providing it with plenty of water and a dormant-style fertilizer. However, there are exceptions. Pruning seals may be recommended for very vulnerable species, like elm trees, in areas where dangerous diseases such as Dutch elm disease are prevalent. In these specific situations, the protection offered by a sealant can outweigh its downsides. For advice tailored to your situation, especially after cutting large branches, it is best to consult a local tree trimming professional.
