Local Roots Landscaping LLC is dedicated to providing the Greater Pittsburgh Area with the highest quality landscaping and lawn care services possible. Started by two best friends with over 10 years of experience in the lawn care profession, we are committed to investing in our local communities by supporting local businesses and using only the best materials available. We provide free quotes and want to help make your dream a reality! We are fully insured and registered with the state of Pennsylvania (PA117252.) Our customer's satisfaction is the core of our business, and we have many positive reviews that we proudly share. Remember, your project is our passion.

"I requested a quote from Patrick at Local Roots mainly to install a Husqvarna Automower 450XH on what I would consider to be a 'challenging' property for this new technology. For anyone not familiar, the Automower is basically a Roomba for the lawn, which promises to mow a carpet-like lawn with minimal maintenance and effort. The result is a beautifully manicured lawn, and I feel like I am living on 'grounds' that are maintained by a full time landscaping crew. The only effort I put into my lawn is to check the Husqvarna app and make sure the mower hasn't gotten stuck, which can happen every few days, and a once-a-month line trim in a few areas. My property is nearly an acre of trees, hills, and roots. While I am technically inclined, I had no idea what the performance characteristics of the Automower were, and initial setup is non-trivial and involves burying a boundary wire as well as guide wires throughout the property. Patrick and crew installed my Automower in a single day. He came with a local Automower approved dealer to ensure that installation was "at or above specification" for things like guide wire lengths and navigable grade. This saved myself significant time in guesswork. In addition, Patrick was willing to set up a season long support contract to perform optimizations and adjustments to the buried wire to ensure my Automower would work flawlessly into the future."

Weed Man is a network of locally owned and operated lawn care professionals providing environmentally responsible fertilization, weed control and integrated pest management services. For the past 40 years, Weed Man's promise has always been the same: We treat your lawn as if it were our own and provide you with honest and open communication.

"I have a very large yard, before I started using them 3 years ago it was covered in creeping Charlie and clover. I had grubs and I couldn't keep up with it. They got rid of my weeds especially the Creeping Charlie and Clover the first year. The grubs have not been an issue since then. I can keep up with grub control in my garden and flower beds now. My yard is so lush, full and green. I am very pleased. They come when the weather permits the work every month, leave a sign in the yard and a packet on the door nob. They are very friendly, and professional, and work non stop. I have a contract with them for monthly services and it's worth every penny."

FAQs for lawn fertilization and treatment projects in Pittsburgh, PA

The cost to reseed or overseed a lawn is about $1,050 on average, ranging from $450 to $1,700, depending on lawn size, seed type, and location. Popular seed types for residential lawns include bahia, fescue, and Bermuda. Keep in mind that it costs $0.10 to $0.20 per square foot to seed or overseed a lawn. Additional cost factors may include:

  • Fertilization: $80–$400

  • Soil testing: $700–$2,100

  • Yard cleanup and leaf removal: $200–$560

  • Treating weeds: $110–$325

  • Mowing: $50–$210

On average, the cost of lawn fertilization is $250, ranging from $80 to $400, depending on the size of the lawn, its current condition, additional treatments, number of applications, fertilizer type, and location. Keep in mind that labor, tools, and equipment make up 80% to 90% of the total cost of lawn fertilization. Additional lawn treatment options include:

  • Lime treatment: $100–$150 per 1,000 square feet

  • Crabgrass treatment: $30–$80

  • Grub treatment: $30–$80

  • Mulching: $150–$400

  • Dethatching: $265–$295

The frequency with which you should fertilize your lawn depends on its overall health. Healthy lawns with healthy soil may only need to be fertilized annually. On the other hand, you may need to fertilize lawns with shallow roots, poor soil, or neglected or over-fertilized every six weeks. To determine the best fertilizing schedule for your lawn, consider hiring a professional lawn fertilizing service and consult them about recommended frequency based on your lawn’s health.

Lawn aeration costs between $75 and $350 on average, depending on the size of the lawn, aeration type, slope of the lawn, soil type, lawn prep, and location. Keep in mind that it costs an average of $0.10 to $0.35 per square foot to aerate a lawn that’s less than 1,000 square feet. Different types of lawn aeration include:

  • Spike aeration: $85

  • Core aeration: $200

  • Liquid aeration: $75

Whether organic or synthetic fertilizers are better for your lawn depends on your goals, budget, and plans for other lawn treatments. Organic fertilizer costs more but is likely to benefit your lawn more in the long run by improving the soil as well as feeding your grass. Synthetic fertilizers get faster results but don’t enrich the soil and may contaminate nearby bodies of water if you live on a shoreline. A hybrid fertilizer may be an option to give you the benefits found in both organic and synthetic fertilizers.
