"Very professional experience with Mina, the engineer who thoroughly explained his findings and suggested remedies. He confirmed house settlement suspicions and causes in a lengthy, detailed report complete with photos. I trust Kiro Engineering and would highly recommend them for structural engineering consultation and peace of mind."

"I had a great experience working with Glenwood Engineering LLC. I was in the process of selling my home and the buyer's mortgage company was requiring a structural engineer to certify the home was structurally sound as the joists in the basement had some previous termite damage. An engineer was able to come out in less than a week and although the initial report indicated some repairs that would be necessary everything needed was clearly stated. I was able to get a contractor to come do the repairs and Glenwood Engineering LLC was able to send the engineer out for a reinspection only two days after the repairs were complete. The customer service was outstanding and thanks to how quickly they were able to send an engineer out both for inspection and for reinspection we were able to close on time. I would definitely use their services again."

"Anthony and John were a pleasure to work with! They took our vision and made it a reality! Their suggestions in some of the planning were spot on and made our house our dream home. They were responsive to our requests and would take the time to explain to us why they were suggesting certain features. So easy to work with, friendly, funny and timely! True professionals with the added touch of feeling like you’re working with family. They were truly invested in our project and it truly showed in EVERY detail. I would welcome the opportunity to work Bruttaniti Architecture in the future and would certainly recommend them to anyone for any of your architecture needs!!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Philadelphia, be wary of quotes that don’t specify compliance with local building codes, omit details about soil testing, or skip site visits. If a professional rushes your decision, requests large upfront payments, or avoids discussing historic property requirements, consider it a warning sign. Always ask for references from recent projects in your neighborhood to confirm their experience with Philadelphia’s unique building conditions.

Helpful?

Before starting a structural engineering project in Philadelphia, confirm permit and zoning requirements, especially if your property is in a historic area. Arrange for soil testing and utility marking to prevent construction setbacks. Document your home’s current condition with photos, and discuss plans with neighbors if shared walls are involved. Hiring a contractor familiar with Philadelphia’s inspection process helps streamline approvals and minimize unexpected delays.

Helpful?

Completing structural engineering work in Philadelphia—such as foundation repair, beam reinforcement, or structural additions—can significantly enhance your home’s value and buyer appeal. This is especially true for older or historic properties. Buyers appreciate documented improvements that address common issues like settling or water intrusion, making your home more competitive in the Philadelphia market and often leading to a quicker sale.

Helpful?

In Philadelphia, you’ll find structural engineering contractors specializing in residential homes, commercial buildings, historic preservation, foundation repair, and forensic analysis. Some focus on row house renovations or addressing common issues like brick settlement. Choosing a contractor with experience in your specific project type and familiarity with Philadelphia’s building codes and soil conditions ensures your structural work meets local standards and long-term needs.

Helpful?

In Philadelphia, frequent freeze-thaw cycles, heavy rainfall, and snow accumulation directly affect structural engineering projects. These conditions require reinforced foundations, advanced drainage solutions, and materials designed to withstand moisture and temperature swings. Planning construction schedules around seasonal weather helps prevent delays and ensures concrete and steel are installed under optimal conditions, reducing the risk of cracking, corrosion, or water intrusion over time.
