Customers say: True professional

"J&E Masonry completed a stone wall repair as well as a small concrete entrance repair for me, both with outstanding effort in all aspects related. Time to come out after initial contact, view desired work and provide an estimate was remarkable. Start dates were provided and time frames for completion maintained. Work was meticulous and cleanup exceptional. Thank you Edgar and Micheal-recommend without reservation."

"Bill and his son worked conscientiously to point badly deteriorated brick mortar joints in the wall, from an old roof drainage problem around the chimney. They matched the existing surrounding mortar joints very well, in color and style. The most difficult part of the job was restoring rubble stone joints at the base of the chimney; the joints were so deteriorated, they had to build it back in two stages - results look good."

"Masonworx Construction did an excellent job repairing my front steps, which were out of code, and fixing damaged mortar joints on my front landing. "Dry Tech recently completed a major waterproofing project in my finished basement, addressing water seepage along roughly 60 linear feet of wall. The crew removed the lower section of drywall and most of the studs, then broke out about 18 inches of the cement floor to install stone and a perforated pipe before finishing everything with fresh cement. All materials were brought in and out through a small basement window, which was no small feat. The team worked hard and handled the entire process professionally. They installed plastic barriers to keep cement dust from spreading through the house, stayed organized, and kept the workspace as clean as possible. From my first meeting with the salesman to the final cleanup, every step was handled with care and competence. I highly recommend Dry Tech for anyone dealing with basement water issues."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Natural stone is formed in deep layers of the Earth through natural processes over thousands of years. The solid composition formations become massive rock beds, or quarries, from which miners extract them.

Yes, but used or reclaimed bricks can be more brittle, cracked, or uneven than new bricks, so they’re harder to cut cleanly by hand. For that reason, you should take extra care when scoring and striking, and expect a higher chance of breakage. If a brick feels especially fragile, score deeper before attempting to split it.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

The exact cost of bricks depends on the type and size of the bricks you use for your project. Generally, standard clay bricks cost between $350 and $850 for a thousand bricks, or an average of $550. Brick veneer costs around the same for materials but is easier to install than solid bricks, so you’ll save on labor by choosing this option.

Yes, it is essential to prime or seal a brick fireplace before painting. Brick is a porous and highly absorbent material, so without a primer, paint can seep into the surface, resulting in uneven coverage and allowing the natural brick color to show through. To avoid this, apply one or two coats of a masonry primer. The primer will seal the brick and provide a smooth, uniform layer for the paint to adhere to. Ensure the primer is completely dry before applying the topcoat of paint.
