"The project began with our description of the kitchen we envisioned. Jason measured, estimated cost, and made some suggestions. Once he was hired, we put down a deposit and he ordered the wood. We chose maple with a natural finish. As he was cutting out the pieces, Jason returned multiple times to re measure. At some point, he invited us to his work shop to inspect his progress. We were so impressed. He had lovingly selected the boards to show case the most interesting grain. He matched the grain on the drawers and door fronts on each cabinet. All the corners were reinforced. When the cabinets were done and clear coated, he and his buddy delivered the pieces by truck. All the pieces were complete as delivered. All the shelves on my cabinetry slide out, like drawers. The peninsula in the kitchen is double sided: There are drawers and doors front facing in the kitchen and the dining room. Drawer entry on either side is a wonderful and attractive convenience. Jason assisted and supervised the entire installation. The plumber and electrician commented that his cabinetry was the most well made and beautiful kitchen cabinets they had ever seen. When the project was complete, Jason presented me with a set of matching trivets which he made from the remnants. We have been home owners since 1973. Jason Dailey is the most honest and professional contractor we have ever hired."

It is a good rule to always pack dishes vertically rather than flat. When you place your dishes upright, like records in a crate, the pressure from the weight of the other plates reduces, minimizing potential damage. Solid wood is a durable and attractive option for cabinet doors that holds up well against a small amount of moisture. However, solid wood doors will expand and contract, meaning upkeep will be necessary if painted. Particleboard with veneer cabinet doors are cost-effective and can be attractive. MDF cabinet doors offer excellent and predictable workability features. However, both of those options are vulnerable to damage if water finds its way through the veneer or paint finish. 

It depends on your ceiling height. Wall cabinets are typically mounted 54 inches from the floor. So, if you have eight-foot ceilings, you’ll need 42-inch-high wall cabinets to fill the gap. And you’ll need 54-inch cabinets if you have nine-foot ceilings. But standard-sized cabinets don’t come in 54 inches, so you'll need to stack various sizes together. And, if you have ceilings higher than nine feet, it’s a good idea to have custom stacked cabinets made to fill your space.

In many homes, upper cabinets are installed with a 1- to 2-foot gap between the tops and the ceiling. However, many homeowners extend their cabinets to the ceiling to gain extra storage and a polished, built-in look.

Ultimately, whether it’s better to hand paint or spray paint your cabinets comes down to preference. Spray painting provides a smooth finish that rarely needs touch-ups once it dries.
