"I have used Mattioni Plumbing for the past 10 years.  They installed a new bath in my basement, a new HVAC system and a bathroom remodel and installed a water softener.  They warranty their work for life and I never worry about anything going wrong with any of the work they have done.  There are plenty of plumbers in my area who charge a whole lot less, but I would never choose any of them over Mattioni.  You get what you pay for with this provider--and more.  I would recommend them to anyone who wants a top-rated provider that stands behind their work, are always punctual and very pleasant and extremely trustworthy.  They have worked in my home when neither my husband nor I were home.  I cannot think of any service provider that I would trust more.

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

You might be able to find your pipe leak by doing a visual inspection around your appliances and under your sink. Don’t forget to check your water heater too. If you find moisture or puddles of water, then you know you’re on the right track—you may need a repair or water heater replacement.

Knowing how to find a water leak can be tricky, but you can try the paper towel method. Lay paper towels on the floor and see where the moisture lands. You can also wrap toilet paper around pipes to locate a small leak.

You could be smelling sewer gas in your kitchen because of a dry P-trap, clogged vent pipe, or leaking plumbing seals. If you smell a rotten egg odor, check your sink’s P-trap and plumbing connections first. A clogged or damaged vent pipe can trap sewer gas and push it back into your kitchen through the plumbing pipes. Loose or deteriorated seals around drainpipes can also allow sewer gas to leak out. If you can’t find the source, call a local plumber for expert help.

The main cause of bathroom leaks is seals and connectors that loosen or deteriorate over time, causing leaks to develop. It's important to stay on top of your bathroom materials, as toilets, showers, and sinks all have different lifespans. Toilets and faucets last between 10 and 15 years on average with regular maintenance, but different parts may have shorter lifespans than others.

The general rule of thumb is that you should clean your pipes every 18 to 22 months, although the process for cleaning depends on the severity of the issue and what type of pipes you have.

That being said, regular maintenance on your pipes can help prevent the need for a full-on replacement and help extend the lifetime of your pipes by quite a bit.

A journeyman plumber is a licensed plumber with a state-issued permit who installs and repairs piping for water and heating systems under the supervision of a master plumber. Also known as a plumbing contractor, a master plumber is considered the highest level in this profession. In addition to passing all state-level requirements, master plumbers have several years of experience. They are allowed to lead teams, create blueprints, and design and install plumbing systems.
