"EastCoastTrenchless got in contact with me very quickly after I posted my problem on Home Advisor. A technician named Mike came out and was friendly, honest and very helpful about my situation and what would need to happen to get my line flowing again. He gave me the best estimate out of all of the plumbers that came out and took a look. We decided to go with them for the project. On the day of the project, a technician name Aaron came out and was also very helpful and transparent about what he was doing and how long it would take. He and his partner did a very solid job in a timely manner. Everything has been working like a charm since they replaced my house trap. I would highly recommend EastCoast Trenchless for any and all plumbing projects. They are great people and they do great work!"

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

The ideal depth of a septic drain field is 18 to 36 inches below the surface. The trenches must be deep enough to allow proper wastewater distribution and filtration while remaining shallow enough for oxygen to reach the soil, promoting bacterial activity that helps break down contaminants. In areas with high groundwater or poor drainage, shallower systems like mound drain fields may be required.

Septic tanks appear full after pumping because the liquid levels have returned to normal. If you can see the pipe, the tank is empty. However, heavy rain can cause septic tanks to fill faster than normal. You might also have leaky pipes or faucets, causing extra water to drip down the drains and into the septic tank.

An outdoor water valve typically has a round or oval handle that you can turn to control the water flow. It may be located in a protective box or pit near the property line, where the main water line connects to your house.

Both materials are suitable for septic tanks, but concrete usually lasts longer than plastic. If you’re buying a new tank, the prices are similar for plastic ($500 to $2,500) and concrete ($700 to $2,000). However, there’s a notable difference in repair prices, with plastic tank repair costs ranging from $150 to $2,000, while concrete repairs are between $700 and $5,000.

Septic distribution boxes, also called D-boxes, tend to last over 30 years if taken care of extremely well. In most cases, however, they tend to last anywhere from 15 years to 40 years. Regular cleaning and maintenance, as well as living in an area that doesn’t flood the tank or the system regularly, will all have an impact on the lifespan of the box.
