"This roofing company is PHENOMENAL!!! They greatly exceeded my expectations! I got a few quotes from other roofing companies and RMR roofing literally did it for half the price, I made the initial deposit and the next morning they were working until they finished! I’m so glad I chose them, I was so pleased that I’m referring them to everyone I know! They do amazing work and very neat and meticulous to the very detail. And they cleaned up and even cleaned my gutters and painted my vents as a courtesy. GREAT JOB GUYS!"

"All the people at Western PA slate are great. I have worked with them for about 9 years now. I hired them to do my roof and my parentâ s roof. I have a large Victorian home that had not been properly maintained for years . Sometimes leaks are hard to pinpoint on older homes. Western PA Slate is up for the challenge. My parentâ s home is from the 1920â s. Their slate roof was at the end of its life. They came and did a total tear off. They replaced it with a higher quality slate. I highly recommend them for all slate roofing projects."

"Robert Romea Roofing uses Owens Corning Shingles, his crew is experienced and does excellent work. Did the job in one day. They came when they said they would, cleaned up afterwards, and came back for minor finishing is a very timely fashion. Would recommend them anytime."

"True North made the experience of putting on a new roof easy. Phil was the absolute best to work with. He explained everything that would happen in the process. The price was very fair, and the workers were polite and cleaned up the entire area when they finished. I love my new roof and would recommend True North Roofing to anyone who may be thinking of roof replacement."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Asphalt shingles blister when air gets trapped between building materials, either within the layers of the shingle itself or in adhesives on the undersides of the shingles. As the roof heats up in direct sunlight, the trapped gas expands and creates a bubble in the roof. Eventually, the bubble can pop, leaving an exposed area of decking and underlayment.

If a roof is not vented, trapped air and moisture have nowhere to go and will cause moisture to build up in the attic. When moisture builds up, it can cause mold and mildew, leaks, and rot. It will make the space hot and stuffy, which can result in higher energy bills as the HVAC system works overtime to regulate the temperature.

You can install solar panels on a flat or pitched roof, but keep in mind that they will need to rest at a 30- to 50-degree tilt for optimal sun absorption. It costs more to install solar panels on a flat roof because you will need to install a framing system and likely hire a structural engineer. If your roof has a pitch of more than 40 degrees, it may not be a good candidate for solar panels.

It’s possible for a roofing estimate to change after the initial assessment, but in most cases, it shouldn’t. There’s always the risk that something unexpected will happen that causes prices to go up, like discontinued materials or your roofer discovering previously hidden damage to your decking when ripping off the old roof. However, experienced roofers should account for these circumstances in their initial estimates. Roofing contracts are binding, so always check your contract for language about how and why your numbers could change.

The lifespan of a torch down roof depends on the number of layers installed. A single-ply system typically lasts between 10 and 15 years, while a multi-layer system with two or three layers can last from 15 to 25 years. Although a multi-layer option may be more expensive upfront, it provides a longer service life. Warranties often reflect this, with about 12 years for a one-ply system and 15 years for a two-ply system. For context, this lifespan is shorter than other common roofing materials like wood or asphalt shingles, which typically last 20 to 30 years, with high-quality versions lasting up to 50 years.
