"Bill H from Gambino Electric showed up promptly on time for the job. There were some edge ceiling tiles that needed to be removed to reach the power line and Bill did very clean work with the removal and disposal. Bill showed cross sections of the older range power line and the new line installed, describing the differences in insulation and safety features of the newer line. Bill went above and beyond by detecting the wrong cord on the new range, and replaced this with the proper range gauge power cord. Bill also helped us to correctly position and level the new range appliance. I would recommend Bill and Gambino Electric for any similar household wiring job where safety and quality of work are a priority."

"I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Drilon and Barry from B&D Electrical Construction because of their excellent service, knowledge, honesty, professionalism and kindness. My home was without power, due to damage in the exterior wire and rust in the wire pipe. Drilon and Barry provided high-quality service to install new exterior wire and durable PVC pipe during almost freezing conditions today! I am extremely grateful because Drilon and Barry realized the urgency of my situation and decided to postpone work on a current project, in order to restore electricity to my home for a Happy New Year. Indeed, I will be having a Happy New Year because I will have electricity and heat in my home! Drilon and Barry expertly diagnosed the problem with my electricity and provided me with an organized work plan and a reasonable estimate of the costs. On the day of our appointment, Drilon and Barry took time to drive to a 2nd store because the 1st store did not have all of the necessary supplies for the project involving my home. Drilon and Barry also went beyond their scope of work and were kind enough to plug the minor holes created by the screws from the previous exterior wire pipe, as well as address the potential hazard of a live interior electrical wire with exposed and frayed copper filaments. I admit that I was very curious about electricity and electrical work. So, I asked a plethora of questions. I genuinely appreciate the patience exhibited by Drilon and Barry to answer my questions about the details of the electrical repair, as well as my questions about voltage, amperage, grounding, 110 volt vs. 220 volt service panels, dedicated service lines and insulation of exterior wires. I was very impressed by Drilon and Barry. As such, I have made arrangements with Drilon and Barry to undertake a 2nd project in the beginning of 2017 to update the interior electrical wiring and install a dedicated service line in my home. Also, I plan to refer Drilon and Barry to my colleagues- GREAT JOB! Sincerely, Wil Lo, MD"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

In most cases, there are no tax credits available for home generators. However, that’s a general statement that applies to federal tax credits, so you might have access to state or local tax incentives. You can check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) for more information about your area. If you hire a reliable home generator installer, they should also know if there are any state or local perks you can use to reduce your installation costs, including tax breaks and rebates.

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.

Yes, in some locations, it is required by the National Electric Code (NEC) to have a transfer switch installed for electrical emergencies. In addition to following electrical code, generator transfer switches ensure your home is fully protected during a power outage. By switching the power from the main breaker to the generator breaker, you can seamlessly operate your HVAC, lights, appliances, devices, and more during an emergency.

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.

Energy output depends on turbine size, average wind speed at your site, and system efficiency. A 5 kW turbine in a good wind location can generate 8,000 to 12,000 kilowatt-hours per year, which may cover a large portion of an average home’s needs. Accurate output estimates require a professional wind assessment and a review of your household’s energy usage patterns.
