Customers say: Quality work

"We could not be more pleased with how things turned out. The driveway is beautiful as well as the new stoop with a brick border. Nick and crew do amazing work which is not only functional but is a work of art. On top of that , the price was fair and the crew was a pleasure to work with. I will always turn to Nick for my concrete needs."

Customers say: True professional

"Lou and his crew were great. Knowledgeable, easy to work with and quality. Lou came out measured everything up and gave me a quote over the phone later that day. Got me in the schedule and we coordinated around his other projects. Removed old asphalt driveway and installed new concrete slab in 3 days. Would hire Goodfellas again and recommend."

"Rowdy Williams and crew were fantastic. Rowdy himself always answered the phone. There was a lot of grading on this job, including a compound drainage path, which Rowdy designed. They team worked fast and produced a great looking driveway. They did the job the day after I signed the work order. The price was very, very good. Finally, this is a family operation. I could not have been more pleased."

"Driveway looks amazing! Brendan provided a great experience all around. Was able to stop by the same day for an estimate and was back the next day to complete the work. He listened to my concerns about a mess a previous contractor made and provided all the answers/suggestions I needed to hear. Showed up exactly when he said he would and did a great job with prep. Will definitely be saving his info for next time the driveway needs sealed or patched up. TL;DR: High quality product, high quality work, high quality guy 👍🏻"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

Instead of a set number of types, asphalt comes in variations designed for different needs. Some are categorized by temperature—hot mix, warm mix, and cold mix. Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.

Whether it's worth it to install a heated driveway depends on how often you'll use it, your lifestyle, and your budget. If you live in a mild climate with little snowfall, then installing a built-in heated driveway system may not be worth it. If you live in a region that experiences mild snowfall, then a portable mat could work better. However, if you live in a region with heavy snowfall, it makes sense to invest in a built-in heated driveway.

Your driveway contractor will probably recommend that you avoid driving on your new millings driveway for up to a week. Keeping pressure off the freshy applied millings will help the driveway to bind together. While the sun is helpful for binding millings, hotter weather can actually make the curing process take longer.
