"Dee is a solid guy and excellent engineer. My project required him to design and create the engineering specs to navigate our town's permitting process. His thoroughness exceeded my expectations. I recommend and trust Dee on any future project."

"I got lucky. I found Lynn on a website and he was the only one with all 5 stars...now I know why! He was so wonderful to work with; knowledgable, responsive, and patient as they come. He worked within my budgetary requirements and even recommended a builder that I decided to work with. I cannot say enough great things about Lynn and highly recommend him to anyone looking for the best architect! If I could give him 10 stars, I would!"

"I was really under the gun due to a prior Architectural firm not performing their duties per building plan codes. Not only were the plans incomplete but the City Plan Reviewer states(The Worst plans he’s ever seen) they will not make adjustments unless there is an additional charge for Thousands. Evaluation’s saved my clients and drew our project per code, along with Engineering in less time then they quoted. I highly recommended them, Especially Kirsten. You went above and beyond trying to coordinate this project. The staff was very professional and I will use them on all my projects. Sincerely, Frank B BCM Builders"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Erie, choose concrete mixes rated for freeze-thaw resistance to handle winter cycles, and install waterproof membranes to combat high groundwater. Galvanized steel is ideal for reinforcing beams due to Erie’s humidity, while pressure-treated lumber works well for framing. Use wind-rated fasteners for roof repairs, and consider vapor barriers and perimeter drainage systems to prevent basement water intrusion, a frequent issue in Erie homes.

Helpful?

In Erie, foundations and basements are especially vulnerable due to the region’s clay-rich soil and frequent freeze-thaw cycles, which can lead to foundation cracks and bowing walls. Roof structures often require reinforcement to handle heavy lake-effect snow. Older homes in Erie may also experience sagging floor joists and deteriorating masonry, particularly in historic neighborhoods where moisture and temperature swings are common.

Helpful?

For Erie homes, keep a digital level to monitor uneven settling, a crack gauge for tracking foundation shifts, and a moisture meter for detecting basement dampness—common with Erie’s lake-effect weather. Emergency supplies like quick-setting hydraulic cement and adjustable support jacks can help with minor repairs. Document changes with photos, and keep a list of trusted local foundation repair and structural inspection professionals for prompt assistance.

Helpful?

When hiring in Erie, prioritize professionals with proven experience addressing local soil movement and severe winter weather. Look for those familiar with Erie’s historic homes and knowledgeable about regional building codes. Ask for recent client references from Erie projects, confirm they carry proper insurance, and ensure they provide transparent communication, clear project timelines, and detailed estimates for foundation repair or structural inspection work.

Helpful?

Erie homeowners often invest in basement waterproofing and foundation repair to combat moisture from lake-effect weather. Converting basements into finished living spaces is popular, as is reinforcing roofs for heavy snow loads. Many are restoring historic homes with structural upgrades, while energy efficiency improvements—like supporting solar panels and adding insulation—are trending. Open floor plans and weather-resistant decks are also sought-after in Erie.
