"My son's house needed a new handrail in order to be eligible for a neighborhood facade grant. Since he lives out of town, I solicited bids for the project. The first bid we received was very high and the material was very unattractive. I found Helping Handrails on Angie's List. Michael met me when he said he would. He gave me a fair price for an attractive handrail. He personally fabricated the handrail and put the handrail in ahead of schedule. I was very pleased with the appearance and the whole process from bid to installation. I would highly recommend this company. I have already given his cards out to several people.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The most common type of metal fence today is one made of either steel or aluminum. These materials are relatively easy to fabricate, making them much more cost-effective than traditional metal fencing handmade from wrought iron. They’re also much lighter and easier to install, contributing to their affordability and making them more DIY-friendly.

A gate shouldn’t be higher or lower than the fence it's attached to. If the gate is lower than the fence, it encourages strangers to peek at your property. If the gate is higher than the fence, it just looks weird. Gates allow for increased security and aesthetics, so ensure the gate rests at the same height as the fence.

Yes, a well-built fence can increase your home value as it improves your property’s curb appeal and also provides enhanced security. Online studies show that fences have a 50% recovery rate, meaning investing $10,000 in a new fence can potentially increase your property value by $5,000 in the end. The number may fluctuate depending on the quality, material, and design of your fence.

The type of horse fence that’s most effective in the short term depends on your budget. Plastic fencing works as a temporary fence idea for those on a tight budget but doesn’t offer as much protection. Pipe fencing can be a short-term option as well. Despite its high cost, you can install and remove it easily if you need to relocate your pasture area.

When it comes to maintenance, vinyl fencing is your best bet for not having to worry about scratches, repainting, or wear and tear from the weather. Vinyl is a material made of polyvinyl chloride (also known as PVC) that can last for years without requiring repairs or maintenance. It’s also one of the lower-cost fence materials to build with.
