"Fantastic company to work with. I needed some new siding and had been taking many quotes. New Look had the best combination of choice and materials. My wife and I ordered siding with insulation and, even though the timeline was tight, New Look said they'd try to get it installed before the winter. In Mid December, the siding and material arrived. They started tearing the old siding off the house on Monday morning and had framed my doors and windows, repaired some walls that needed work, and finished installing the siding by the end of Wednesday. New Look did a ton of work in a 3 day timespan."

"Murray and his team were awesome! From picking the siding color to cleaning up at the end of job. The Siding was able to be started sooner than expected and faster than promised! The crew worked hard all day, and part of the evening to get the job done. I've had many compliments on the work that was done. I would definitely recommend Mifflin Construction!"

"We picked EAS roofing because they were able to finish our job in a week (others with smaller crews would have been here for 2 to 3 weeks). They also have a "roofers buggy" which is a small dumpster they can raise up to roof height and therefore they can slide all the old shingles right into it. It's much cleaner and efficient than what other roofers do (which is slide the shingles off onto your landscaping and patio). I also picked EAS because they have a small showroom and they are able to show you on their iPad and/or TV what your house would look like with different types of shingles on it (hi-tech roofers are the best)! Eugene (the owner) came out to our house and gave us a written quote while he was there (other roofers took a week to get back to us). Nick was the foreman of the crews and he was very professional and hard working. Christine works in the office and she was very responsive and helpful All in all, I would highly recommend EAS if you need a new roof. TIP: There are two different types of gutters....some that wrap around the corners of your house and some that do not. There is a significant price difference between the two so ensure you are clear at the time of the proposal which ones you want."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Before applying paint to exterior surfaces, filling any cracks or gaps with caulk is essential. Sealing them with a combination of caulk and paint prevents moisture from damaging the paint or decaying the underlying material. You want to ensure the caulk you purchase can be painted over or that you opt for a caulk the same color as the paint.

Hardie board is more expensive than vinyl siding. Vinyl siding costs $3 to $12 per square foot, on average, with cost skewing toward the lower end of that range. Hardie board siding costs $7 to $18 per square foot, depending on the style, color, and trim. However, it lasts twice as long and often looks nicer, meaning you’ll see a higher bump in your home value and greater curb appeal from Hardie board.

Yes, you can install siding over stucco, but it's crucial to ensure the stucco is in good condition first. Before proceeding, inspect the stucco for any signs of damage, leaks, or mold growth. If you discover water damage, mold, or have ongoing leak issues, it's recommended to remove the stucco completely. This step prevents future problems like mold and pest infestations and allows a professional to repair or replace any damaged sheathing underneath. If the stucco is sound, the installation process involves attaching furring strips to the wall's framing directly through the stucco. The new siding is then installed onto these furring strips. A professional may also need to adjust window and door openings to prevent them from being recessed behind the new siding, which can cause aesthetic issues and create potential leak points.

Not wrapping a house before installing siding can lead to moisture intrusion, rot, mold, and even higher energy bills. Older houses may have siding installed without wrap underneath, so it’s a good idea to add a wrap layer when it comes time to replace old siding to prevent potential damage from water intrusion—local codes may even require it, so check with your municipal building authority.

Generally speaking, the thicker the siding, the higher the quality. Thicker siding provides a stronger resistance against extreme weather conditions. Thicker siding also tends to fade more slowly under the sun. Hardie boards, a popular fiber cement siding option, is usually 5/16 inches thick. Meanwhile, masonry-finished cement siding varies from 5/8 to 5/8 inches thick.
