"Ira was cordial and professional. He has practical experience and knowledge of residential energy audits. He was able to provide useful suggestions but not definitive solutions to issues. That may have been due to inaccessible interior walls. I am frustrated that a full written report that had been promised still has not been produced six weeks later."

"I have lived in my house for two years, and have had problems with rooms that wouldn't get cool in the summer (despite central air conditioning), or stay warm in the winter. I had to move my bedroom after the first summer and winter, and could not comfortably sit for long in my living room. I replaced all my windows with triple paned ones in March 2020, which made little difference. I had PECO do an energy assessment of my home last spring. Home Energy & Comfort was on PECO's list of recommended contractors. I researched them further, and their reviews were impressive. I soon found out why. Gordon Clark, one of the co-owners, and a crew of three to four workers spent two days at my home in early June 2020. To make a long story short, they insulated everywhere that needed it (including the garage which is underneath my living room), air sealed gaps and cracks where needed, sealed up ducts, spray foamed rim and band-joist area, and did air seal blowing tests before and after the work. The team was always polite and respectful, and masked due to the Coronavirus. They protected everywhere they worked with plastic sheets and tarps, and cleaned up well afterward. They also did all the work to submit paperwork for rebates from PECO, and deducted the rebate amounts from my bill rather than have me wait for them. This has honestly been the best money I have invested in my home. The hot days have shown me the vast improvement in energy efficiency. I was able to move my bedroom back to the bigger room in the southwest corner, which is now very comfortable. An added bonus is the reduction of dust in my home. I am very happy I chose Home Energy & Comfort to do the work in my home!"

"My 10-year old air conditioner was not cooling . I tried replacing the outdoor unit capacitor but this didn't fix the problem. I took advantage of Harmon Heating 's $30 check up fee and my unit was diagnosed with an evaporator leak.  Bruce (the business owner) explained to me that the cost of fixing it (about $1750) is not worth it because of the age and that the type of refrigerant being used (R-22 or Freon) is being phased out. He provided a comprehensive website with all options available to me. I did my due diligence by researching the market  to make sure that I wasn't being taken advantage of. I found that the prices are reasonable (of course, I would have saved a lot of money if I buy the equipment myself but that will be too risky and I do understand that businesses need to make money too). I wasn't at all pressured to totally replace my  system. Since I'm an avid environmentalist  (I drive a Prius and watched all episodes of Cosmos) and have the cash to spend, I decided to replace the unit with a newer, more energy efficient model that use less harmful refrigerant (Puron). I also decided to replace the furnace with a more efficient model to maximize the efficiency of the whole system. When I expressed interest with one option, Bruce came back the next day to perform a load calculation on the house to make sure that the tonnage is right for my house. The results of this calculation was given to me right after the installation. The installation commenced the same week and took only one day. Bruce performed the work himself (with the help of an assistant). After the install, proper cleanup of the site was performed. He patiently answered all my questions. He also explained to me that the gas supplier needs to adjust the pressure and that he'll return in the fall to make sure this is done as it is essential for the system to work correctly. When I complained about the furnace using the old condenser pump, he explained that it wasn't part of the original contract. But he returned the next day with a new condenser pump even without being asked, to make sure that I'm 100% satisfied. He also helped me with the rebate process (I got $400 rebate from Peco). When Peco's website appeared to not recognize the model as 'rebatable' . I emailed Bruce and I got the assurance that he'll pay me the amount of the rebate himself (and in turn get the supplier to reimburse him). Fortunately, this did not have to happen as Peco already sent me the check. I'm very satisfied with the new system and the overall experience with the service provider.

"Person who visited was very polite and noted that what I purchased was likely not something that would meet my expectations.  I wanted an energy audit, how my systems could be improved in home, lighting, heating, insulation and air conditioners.  What I got was a list of things they could work on and the price to do that work.  The work list in no way was considered an energy audit, rather it was a punch list of things I could do based on their visual inspection.  I did not have a comparison of work and benefit/savings calculation.  There was no checklist of inefficiencies and how that translated into energy losses. For example, multiple hi hat lights in house, they spoke about boxing and insulating a few, less than 10, when I have almost 90 in house.  Overall I was disappointed, the tech who came said the offering needed to be better presented prior to start of work."

"Estimator came out quickly, was very personable, and could schedule my install appointment a few weeks later right then and there. When the tech came out he was polite, efficient, and very quick.  Overall I was very happy with the service and would recommend them to others if the price is competitive with another company.

"Bill was very responsive, prompt, professional and extremely knowledgeable. He was even able to save me a few hundred dollars by removing one of the components that was still working from the dead unit and put it in the unit which needed fixing. He'll also be getting me a quote to replace the non-working unit. I would highly recommend Bill's company."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

There are energy-efficient options when building a cottage. Select green building materials, high-performance insulation, and energy-efficient windows when designing your cottage. Options such as solar panels, efficient HVAC systems, and LED lighting can lower your utility bills and reduce your environmental impact. Many builders offer energy-efficient upgrades as part of the design process.

Common warning signs of an overloaded electrical panel or meter box include frequent circuit breaker tripping, flickering or dimming lights, scorch or burn marks, and a burning scent coming from the panel. A circuit breaker trips as a protective measure to prevent overheating and potential fires. If you observe any of these signs, turn off the affected circuit breaker and move some devices to a different circuit. If the problem persists after turning the breaker back on, you should contact a professional electrician to resolve the issue.

Heat pumps transfer existing heat instead of generating it, using less energy. Compared to baseboard heaters, they can reduce heating costs by up to 50% and provide efficient cooling, lowering electricity bills and carbon footprint.

Home power is measured in kilowatt-hours, commonly expressed as kWh. The average home uses between 800 and 1,000 kWh per month. Peak usage (and highest bills) occurs in the middle of summer and the depths of winter. Keeping on top of your usage during these crucial months will lower your annual average usage considerably.

You'll likely need more than great home staging to sell your home. Now is a great time to get to work on the curb appeal of your home . Hire local exterior painters and landscapers to coat the exterior of your home and bring it new life with some sprucing up.
