Before the widespread use of PVC, affixing a ground wire to plumbing pipes was generally considered to be an acceptable workaround. Nowadays, not so much. There are plenty of nonmetallic water pipes and fittings out there, so any ground previously provided by the metallic piping would be interrupted in these cases, which is dangerous.

A duplex outlet simply means that the receptacle has two plug-in outlets for two plugs. It’s a common design choice for homes. The two outlets should be wired identically during installation so the hot side is the same for both.

It’s generally not recommended to run electric to a shed above ground, and you should instead run electric lines underground via a conduit. This job, like all electrical jobs, is best left to a pro, as they’ll need to ensure everything is installed safely and that they don’t run into any other utility lines underground. 

You should install a 25-amp breaker for your outdoor electrical outlet. If your outlet is only for use in an outdoor kitchen area for standard appliances, then a 15- to 20-amp circuit breaker should work. However, you will need to install a GFCI receptacle or breaker to ensure that the breaker trips on contact with water.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.
